Thank you again for your generous feedback on my new Kelly. I just wanted to share the following impressions I have after sampling her this week.

- I adore the tan color of the Swift in gold coupled with the beautiful contrast white saddle stitching. The contrast stitching just emphasizes more in a subtle manner the shape and design of the Kelly. It also goes very well with the palladium hardware that this bag came with. Very nice combination for anyone who wants a Kelly in a neutral color.

-The interior is as beautiful to look at as in the exterior since H also used the same gold swift leather and contrast white stitching for the lining and 3 pockets. Since the design is a sellier with outside stitching, the bag has a "cleaner" finish in the interior since there are no inner folds/stitching that holds the bag together. I also like the pocket design without zipper for this particular Kelly which makes it appear to easily get into, roomier, and seems to reach deeper than in the Birkin. The swift in gold is one of the leathers that is great to be used as both exterior and interior for an H bag. It just makes the bag seamlessly beautiful and feel luxuriously soft to touch.

-I find myself amazed and in awe at just looking at this particular Kelly as I admire the hours of stitching that the wonderful leather craftsman devoted to this piece. I can describe it similar to admiring a beautiful H saddle but in a softer sac in this case. It has the elements of beautiful saddle making but refined since it is a Kelly and done in a softer leather. I think this piece will be appreciated by any H lover who also enjoys other leathers like natural barenia, clemence or togo in gold.

- Suprisingly, I was able to tuck in the outer flap inside the bag a la birkin tote style, then buckle up the straps and carry the bag by the handle. The flap stayed in place without popping up. I think it is possible in this design because of the suppleness and flexibility of the swift leather.

-I also like the use of the old hardware design which holds the ends of the handle with the rest of the bag. In the current Kelly, you have extra hooks that show to which one can attach the shoulder strap. The absence of the hooks IMO leaves no distraction to the nice aesthetics of the leather handle and the 2 leather tabs sewn on the flap of the bag to hold the handle.

-Looking at this Kelly from its back profile, one could not help but notice the beautiful horizontal stitching on the strap that wraps around the back of the Kelly. Within this long strap are 3 lines of stitching (left, center, right) which give this bag a unique and contemporary look making this new design a must have for anyone who loves not only beautiful leather but wonderful stitching as well.

-It also comes with a beautiful leather strap that can be used as a shoulder strap or a belt to tie around the bag when folded flat. This belt I think is a work of art. It is completely hand-stitched and could be used as a belt or bracelet as well. Leave it to one's H imagination on the endless uses of this wonderful strap. To carry the bag on your shoulder, you simply run the strap thru the hardware attachment of the handle.. You can also shorten the length of the handle by pulling up the portion of the strap that runs underneath the handle by grabbing the strap instead of the handle with your hand or crook of your arm.

-This 35cm Kelly is suprisingly lighter than its Birkin equivalent. I think it is so because it does not have the regular metal hardware that comes with the regular Kelly or Birkin. Also, the width of this Kelly is shorter compared to its Birkin equivalent which I like. It allows for the various personal effects to stay in place. Personally, I like the single handle design of the Kelly more than the Birkin since it feels more ergonomic when grabbed by the hand. The fact that the Birkin is wider than the Kelly adds to the feel of bag weight between these 2 bags.

-The swift slouches a bit but nothing compared to clemence. As much as I like the buttery feel of clemence, for a tall bag design like the Kelly or Birkin, I find that it really slouches more on a clemence and gets that batwing effect on the sides. The swift leather on the otherhand does it elegantly with only a little slouch considering this is a 35cm. Probably since more textured clemence is a little heavier and thicker leather compared to the smoother swift.

-One end of the strap (without the buckle) can be run through the 2 palladium strap guides whenever one does not want to buckle both ends of the strap. This makes the bag look wider than it really is. In this case, the other end of the strap that has the buckle can be left just hanging. This strap hanging reminds me of the H watch strap. The buckles used are in the Etriviere design in palladium which gives this Kelly its very own chic quality.

-For a sellier, this bag is so easy to get into and flexible enough to accomodate more of your personal effects like a birkin would. For anyone contemplating of getting a Kelly in all natural barenia leather, this will be a good alternative since it does not seem to scratch easily, weighs less, and seems to tolerate water better. You still get that overall saddle look but in a softer and lighter version. And the gold swift also has its own wonderful leather scent like most natural or neutral colored leathers. It must be the plant extracts they use to tan or treat leathers to give its gold or natural color.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. I would say that I would keep her more in the unfolded state she is in inspite of the original box that it came with is less tall. It came with the new toile beige sleeper bag design which goes well with the Kelly neutral gold/tan color. I have been keeping her in my other birkin's box so that I don't have to fold her in and "tie" her up.

Next time you visit your local H boutique, pls. take time to sample this new unique Kelly design and discover for yourselves her very own unique charms and multiple facets.

Best regards,
J

JH,

just bumping this thread up. i just saw the kelly flat in vert chartreuse. lovely beyond words. i admit to not giving it a second thought, but now seeing it in real life...my my..it's love at first sight.

and i now understand the thing you said about the contrast stitching-it does add oodles of charm to the bag. since i am on a purse ban, i could not bring it home with me.

i remembered your detailed description and searched it on tPF.this is just to let you know i really appreciated the effort to introduce us to this lovely lovely bag. :ty:

so lovely that it's now priority one over the birkin.

That is one beauty of a bag, the only thing that would make it better is a kelly like strap, allowing it to be used as a casual messenger, as at this age and stage of life, a briefcase isn't the most practical or viable item for me :)

vivek, you can use the strap that holds it folded up as a shoulder strap - though i don't know whether it's long enough for messenger style.

i ADORE the kelly flat.

So funny that what might work on paper doesn't necessarily work in person and visa versa!

Ditto - a beautiful description of something I would not otherwise have looked at.

i wonder if we can see the kelly flat with the shoulder strap in place..in terms of length and if messenger style is possible-if the OP would oblige our request. (vigorously batting my eyelids)

honestly i never thought that as an option.
