I might use the Lexol again on the vachetta because I’m a little disturbed by the brown residue on the sock. I plan to use Cadillac to help prevent the leather from drying out too much. Here’s how it looks now. I rigged a damprid pack to go inside because I want it to dry faster (concerned about mold). I’m ok with the super dark vachetta but suspect it will lighten as it dries. My main goal with washing was to make the bag clean enough to use without a squick factor, I didn’t really care about removing vachetta stains. We’ll see how it turns out!
It's good you got all the smells and dirt out of your Noe. Once it dries, the vachetta will return to a lighter colour than it is now. You can turn the Noe inside out and dry it under the sun, if you worry about mold. Good luck with the rest of your cleaning project.

So I actually tried to turn it inside out while washing it and couldn’t get it all the way. Maybe I wasn’t forceful enough but it seemed like the base was too stiff and bulky to go inside out. Plus then I’d be worried about creasing the leather bottom too much. I am planning to put it in a sunny spot though!

Pretty impressive results so far. I wonder if it might be easier to dry with the leather base standing on some type of rack to have air circulate under the leather. Maybe a oven rack raised up off the counter.
Can’t wait to see the results when it is dry. I took the lining out of a large toiletry bag yesterday and scrubbed it with a still brush and dishwashing soap. It was soaked but the brown canvas came out spotless. I should have taken pictures. I had two and removed the sticky lining on the first one with clear packing tape and was left with a clean soft flannel lining but the second one was just too gross looking even after removing as much as I could.

The Noe is one of my favorite bags. They are indestructible, I had my first one for over 25 years and gave it to a friend and now have a DA one.

Enjoy your bag.

OMG! That is amazing! Even if it does not get much lighter, the leather looks so much more even! I cannot wait to see what it looks like when it does fully dry.
The top trim is drying faster and is already getting lighter. I’m totally ok with dark vachetta though. I’m just glad the bag isn’t disintegrating (yet).

Wow. I would stuff it with microfibre cleaning cloths to absorb a lot of the moisture then remove them after a few hours and replace with dry ones. That might speed up the drying time of the inside.

I did that initially, then used a hairdryer. It’s now mostly dry feeling on the inside. I’m going to go over it a few times tonight with the hairdryer and then turn it upside down on the rack.

Yeah, I thought that was the after.
I picked this noe because the leather looked to be in relatively good condition with no cracks etc and it was priced lower than the ones on fashionphile. I mean, why spend all this effort washing a bag that I wouldn’t want to carry afterwards. I knew it was a risk that it would turn out worse than before though. I figured I would just sell it if that happened and eat the difference. I did it for science.
