My local Hermes store is closing down permanently

Come to Manchester! Carole, Kay, Paul and the team will look after you. I've only ever had joy from shopping with them. Still, a rotten journey to have to do from Glasgow. You would hope that Hermes could squeeze in at the New Town in Edinburgh eventually but their cost/benefit analysis is stringent I understand.
Is Manchester boutique close to the airport? I've been to Edinburgh quite a while back and I don't think there was a H boutique there at that time. The city was absolutely charming and the Castle blew my mind. But a H boutique should always be an integral part of any city which gets a lot of tourists.

P.S., Les Tambours, seen any yak clothing

No, eagle1002us, the Hermes store is in the city center and the journey is do-able by tram/bus/taxi/walking but you'd need a couple of hours to get out of the airport, into the city, find Selfridges, mooch around and get back in time for any onward journey. Best thing to do is to have a good reason for coming to Manchester ( concert or sporting event should we ever get back to normal). Manchester is not generally a great shopping experience although there are some small pockets of quirkiness here and there.

And I always get a thrill whenever I see H make yak products! Bit warm for Manchester though where waterproof clothing is more useful.

I’m so sorry to hear about the Glasgow store! That is really sad but pleased you will hopefully be able to transfer your profile to Manchester

I’m actually really pleased to hear all of the positive thoughts on the MCR store.

MCR is the most local store for me me. When I first started to get more interested in H I finally went into the store, but the shop floor was sooooo small I just assumed they didn’t stock very much - I just picked up a scarf but to be fair I didn’t ask about anything else.

Given it was so small I thought it would be better to shop from the London stores. Started with homeware at Bond St which was an awful experience - the SA was so rude. Transferred over to Harrods where I met a really lovely SA and placed my wish and purchased a few things. Was feeling optimistic about her but since the second lockdown she’s been soooo unresponsive to all of my messages. I completely understand they are low on stock but I didn’t think she would just flat out ignore me:confused1: I’m finding it a little frustrating.

Wondering whether given all the lovely comments about MCR I should start shopping there instead and move my wish once the stores reopen. It’s more convenient for me to shop there anyway, so reading this thread I think will give me the push I needed to do it! Thanks all for your insights!

...wonder what happens when Hermes closes a store: do the SA's relocate, go on furlough or redundancy? In france it is incredibly difficult to 'let go' of staff. Not sure about UK or USA

The Sales staff are being made redundant, the manager is retiring. They are all wonderful people and this coming on top of all that’s happened in the last year is heartbreaking.

yes very sad. Retail is going through a tough time. But you'd think they can relocate good people in London. :wtf:Plenty of work there and busy stores

It's more difficult if the person in question has family ties, duties and/or likes where they live. Scotts and people that have adopted Scotland don't always want to move to England (or anywhere else).

good point. but still - sometimes people have to go where the work is. if there is any work, I dont know for sure I am just assuming that London will bounce back.

Hello all - me again... sorry if this isn’t entirely on point or I should have posted elsewhere.

After all your nice comments about MCR I’ve decided to move my profile to the Manchester boutique and would like to make an appointment to go in for sometime in the coming weeks.

Does anyone have the email address for the Manchester store that they would be willing to share so I can contact them to make an appointment?

 Thanks in advance

I popped into the refurbished John Lewis this afternoon (it just reopened today) and I noticed a Hermes display which has previously never been in JL, and I stopped to look at the lipsticks. A lovely gentleman came over and started chatting and told me it was the only boutique outside London selling the exclusive fragrances and lipsticks so I wonder if they might extend their range to add in other bits seeing is Glasgow has closed down, or better yet maybe even a standalone store in the new St. James building?

One of the polish SAs did re-locate to London. But 4 of the others have all had babies within the past 18months! So moving wasn’t an option for them.
Hi Pinkfairyjade, do you by any chance know the name of the SA who got relocated to London and/or her email address? I will be in London and was hoping to book an appointment with her to get a few of items. Many thanks

I am so sad that my home store has closed down this is where I have purchased almost everything I have and I really cant travel down to manchester or london , so now i am stuck with my watch needing its battery replaced and cant get it done like I normally do, really hope Hermes re-think and open another store somewhere else in scotland
