Wishlist for within the next few years:

1. Cartier Juste Un Clou Ring in Pink Gold - Getting this with a friend, since he wants to get it at the same time.

2. Solitaire diamond studs. I just think it's the next step for it since my diamond cluster studs is one of my most used studs.

3. Resize the Grace Ring from Lisa Eldridge that I found preloved since I want to have it on my right ring finger.

I got my ring resized and I love it, but here's a proper wishlist:

1. Cartier Juste Un Clou Ring in Pink Gold

2. Tiffany T1 Ring Narrow in Yellow Gold, half pave. I hesitated putting the T1 ring until I have tried it on.

3. ?Solitaire diamond studs. I'm not entirely convinced I really need a pair when my diamond cluster studs are in rotation.

Looking at all of these wish lists, I wonder how do you buy your jewelry? Do you have a monthly or yearly budget? Do you buy spontaneously or are you waiting for an opportunity? Do you show your wish list to your husbands and put the development of your collection in their hands? I haven't been very successful in building a collection so far, I would be really curious how you do it!

I set aside a certain amount in my budget that I can spend per year. I stick to that budget for the most part and stagger my spending. I allow myself to get 2-3 big ticket items a year and that includes bags and jewelry. Each month I have a general idea of what is a comfortable amount to spend and I also save a significant portion. And on a side note I have no CC debt and have an emergency fund. Finances come first.

I also want to add that I make a wishlist and think very, very carefully about what I should add. I don’t impulse buy. The items I pick need to be classic and need to be able to be worn a lot for me to buy them. They have to “go” with my other items and general aesthetic. So it’s a lengthy process of thinking and weeding out what I like but don’t think would be good to buy.

Even as a young woman I was lucky enough to have lovers who could afford to pamper me with jewelry. So I started building a collection early on. It took a few years to earn enough money to be able to afford things like Love bracelets or gold Rolex watches myself. Today, my monthly budget allows me to shop more spontaneously. Again and again I stumble upon things that inspiere me and with which I reward myself. For the things on my wish list that are a bit more expensive, I like to let my husband help me a little.

I work and earn the money for all of my pieces that I buy (except for my engagement ring of course!). I typically plan one or two "big" jewelry purchases a year. I agree with nycmama that finances always need to come first so if there are other priorities I need to attend to then I hit the pause button on pleasure purchases like jewelry as I unfortunately do not have a money tree. I have a high stress job so I like to reward myself when I can. Though we have literally just bought a house, so wishlist will have to wait a solid six months

@early bird, I’ve always bought my own Hermes bags and RTW. DH enjoys jewelry shopping and has definite opinions, so typically big jewelry is a group decision : DH, jewelry professional and me, and in that case, DH usually pays. We don’t really buy for a particular holiday or occasion, (to be clear, I’ve gone years without any interest in jewelry shopping so the larger budget is perhaps indicative of that ) but for bigger pieces (like a Verdura cuff now in the works) we have pondered it quite a bit. Planning it can be a lot of fun.
