My first watch...do I get movado?

I mean crazy to be scared to spend that much, lol! I've never owned a watch before... I used to wear some when I was a kid but that's it. Plus I have tons of rings and necklaces and I already spend so much on clothes and purses. I'm in my 20's, and I'm going on 2-3 vacations in the next 6-7 months and I'm saving for MacBook pro so you can see my dilemma on spending even more money when to me, it's hard to since i've never owned a watch.

That gives me such a chuckle thinking back to how scary it was to purchase my first $900 watch.

This year I gave my boyfriend a "hint"for a Christmas gift by directing him to the following link, letting him know my favorite number this month is "6". <wink>

Oh I like the bling on this one! This one is really pretty. I just suggested plain b/c you can save some money. But if this sort of in your price range then I'd get it instead of the ESQ:-)

Now you understand my dilemma! .... I could afford it, just want to save SOME kind of money at least...LOL. Bah..... I'm thinking I'll order the ESQ one and if I don't like it at all, send it back and get the titanium one...

Of the two you showed, I prefer the Movado. The ESQ was not at sleek IMO. I have a Movado watch that I received as a present when I graduated from college. It is a wonderful watch, has taken quite a beating over the years and is still going strong!

I'd seriously get the Movado (and if you want to save, just get a tad less sparkle on it). It's just a solid, classic watch for your first. If you got one from Amazon at a discount, then you'd have a few hundred left to put towards a second watch and start getting more distinctive and unique pieces to add in to the mix over time:graucho:

I think that's what I'll be doing in the end. The past few days, Ive been looking at watches ALL OVER, and I'm getting so tired of it already...and I had to drag my poor bf thru it all to get his oppinion...lol. I guess nothing got our reaction like whenever I put on a movado, it looked the shiniest, and really sleek looking compared to all watches. I liked the bulova watches as well, but some looked like too much bling which made it look fake even tho it wasnt and some was too thick for me. I fell in love with longines...which will probably be my second watch...so I guess the movado will be it. I think I'm gonna wait till after New Years for some sales since the new season of watches will be coming in.

This was the ESQ watch I liked second...itd be 275 dollars, a great deal honestly. Still sapphire crystal according to the website description. But looks more...sportier and chunkier obviously. Don't know what to do!

Get this one! The price is obscenely affordable and the "chunkiness" you refer to lets it stand out from the crowd of a traditional "elegant" watch.

This one is PERFECT for a first-timer.

Thanks for the oppinion guys...can't settle for an ESQ though because I keep getting drawn to an actual movado. I finally picked which one I want, and I'd like your oppinions. It has everything I want in a watch basically. I will probably buy after x-mas because you never know how much I'll spend on gifts..especially since I like spoiling people.

What do u think of this watch?

Movado was my first nicer watch and I wore it for many years and have absolutely no complaints, it held up amazingly. My Movado is a very classic looking 2 tone and I went from the that watch to a Rolex. Movado has outlets and several reputable online sites sell authentic discounted Movado...

Movado was my first nice watch as well. Like chanel-girl mentioned there are movado outlets. Are you near one? My movado outlet has movado, esq, coach, concord, lacoste, Hugo Boss, and Ebel watches at a pretty hefty discount. Each month they run different promos/specials as well. If you are anywhere near one you may want to check it out, but all sales are final there (I think you can return for in-store credit only) so you want to be certain before you buy.

I live in Wisconsin so unfortunately I'm not near one. Ive been watching the online sites such as ashford.com and thewatchery for good sales...I know after xmas, they'll be even bigger sales since they will take advantage of us buying xmas gifts.

Just to throw in my two cents...I'd be careful of thewatchery.com and ashford.com

I recently bought my first "designer" watch, a Gucci Twirl and wound up purchasing it at Macy's instead of risking it online. The watch was like half the price on the websites I listed but after researching, I found out that these sites may be what is called "gray market", meaning while the watches aren't illegal or knockoffs, they weren't meant for sale in the U.S. and the warranties might be void. One does have to wonder how they can afford to sell these watches so much cheaper. You can google it and find information.

I know alot of people have used these sites, but my dad who definitely considers himself a watch connoisseur advised me against it. I would rather try to find the watch on sale at a reputable store. Good luck.

I love it!!! What a great deal! It's classic but also has flair. I think you'd be really happy with this one:)

I have an older Movado, a Zodiac, and a Longines. I also own an ESQ that I picked up last year for a steal when a local jeweler was closing. I have to say, I'm very happy with the ESQ. They are nice, well-made watches. My husband also wears a Movado most days and it has held up like a champ. The one thing I was disappointed in is that when we opened up the back of my husband's Movado - the interior movement was plastic. We were both very disappointed in that, considering the price of the watch.

I would buy what you think you'll be most happy with. If you're questioning the ESQ, don't buy it.

On another note, if you have a Bailey Banks & Biddle anywhere near you, they're closing all the stores and most watches are 60-70% off. They sell ESQ, Concord, Movado, and quite a few other brands. Might be worth checking out to see if you can score a great deal!
