I think the gold with its contrast white stitching is so unmistakably Hermès.
I also prefer gold in a small size bag I think it looks very elegant.
My 2nd Hermes bag was gold and I chose gold because its a classic and will look good in summer with white and denim and neutrals.
In winter (I live in the UK) I love it with olive greens, browns and yes I do wear it with black.
You don't mention the hardware?
Gold with ghw is very chic, gold with shw is slightly more modern, and gives to my mind a more casual twist.
Enjoy the bag..don't consign you'll lose money and chances are You'll look at the black bag and go..meh.
I ALWAYS thought I really wanted a black birkin then I tried one and due to the leather (Togo) I thought it looked a bit dull, I didn't love it..I realised then I only would want a black Birkin in a smooth leather like Barenia, Box or Swift.
I think gold shows the grain and character of the leather in Togo or Clemence beautifully.

That’s a funny statement your friends make. Bc noir is “just black”. :lol:

I think gold is a good choice. Like everyone said it’s super versatile. I agree to whoever said to let it sit for a few days. I think it’s just the initial shock of how much the bag is that’s making you second guess yourself. You made the right decision.

I love my gold B30 and carry it all the time. As @QuelleFromage notes, gold is very versatile and I carry it all year long often while wearing head to toe black. I was a little uncertain when I was first offered it as I have never really owned a neutral bag but gold goes with almost everything.
In the end though, it doesn't matter what I think...you have to love the bag. And while it is a little nerve-wracking to spend many thousands of dollars on a bag but as @Veritybelle suggests, you'll feel better once sticker shock has subsided.

Since it’s the gold you’ve been longing after, I’m guessing you made the right choice to stick with it! I agree with others that it is the perfect, classic Birkin Look. The only reason I (personally) prefer black is that I have decided brown is not my neutral. I need black, grey, and white to be happy. (Not to say brown doesn’t work with those neutrals!)

Since you were initially drawn to the gold, I‘ll bet dollars to donuts you have a lot of golds & browns in your closet - so the gold will be perfect! And as others have said, it really does set off an all black outfit wonderfully, as well.

It's a struggle with me making decisions because I'm asking myself which one if it was my only bag or even if I should go with something totally different since there are so may brown and grey shades that I might use even more. lol

Girl, I feel you. I am the exact same way. I always think, oh if I'm only buying ONE bag, I should go with black. Because it's classic blah blah. But there is something to be said about your first instinct. It sounds like gold is the color for you, honestly. And it will work all year round. (I hate carrying black bags in the summer.) I think you made the right decision. Would love to see a pic of it too.

Welcome to the slippery slope of H. Gold is special as your first birkin. No one does Gold better than Hermes and it’s such a classic colour.

It wouldn’t be long until you yearn for a noir. Perhaps in another style?

I love black and gold in Hermes. Ironically, I don’t wear camel or brown or warm colors in my wardrobe. I find gold to be a really unique color that works well with most warm and cool tones. When compared to browns and camels from other brands, I find it to be unique and bright. I love black and it’s the mainstay of my winter and fall wardrobe but I personally find it too heavy for summer and will not wear it in the heat. Gold is a beautiful and classic color you can wear year round so enjoy it!
