Hi,
I am new to this thread. I have read it before but have only posted once--yesterday. I just wanted to share my own personal experience and give my opinion on what "drives" the "letter".

My background--I am 39yrs old--Married--One child--I work part-time. I have sold some things on ebay before but like the rest of you it has been my own personal things that I just didn't want/like anymore. I started "collecting" coach about 3yrs ago. I started out just buying the purses. I would then just buy a cheap wallet to match. Then I became "obsessed--LOL" and I started thinking if I bought the purse I had to have the matching wallet, wristlet, keychain, etc etc. So over the years I have a pretty big collection. I mostly buy from the outlet but have on occassion bought from the retail store.

I have bought from the same outlet for the past three years. I never thought the SA's were overly nice but I never had any problems either. In fact this one older lady and I started chatting one day and had quite a few things in common. She took my personal info and would call me whenever something came in that she thought I would like. The only time I go "crazy" with my buying is usually christmastime. This past Christmas I bought quite a few gifts. I have a teenage daughter and 4 nieces on my side of the family. My husband has 5 nieces on his side. I work in a pretty large office--all women. So I bought several keychains, cosmetic cases, etc for gifts.

Now I have been on here before and read like everyone else what most people think drives the letter--Excessive buying(thousands of dollars) routinely, Excessive returns, Returns without a receipt. I never fit into any of these catagories so I never thought I would get a "letter".

A couple of days before christmas--I was buying several cosmetic cases that were the same color/sku number. Well this one girl--who for some reason has never been nice to me said to the sa ringing me up--"She comes in here all the time and she "knows" she can only buy 3 of one item. I looked at her like she was nuts--yes I live only 30min from the outlet so I do go about twice a month but not every single day--the way she was acting. My older SA that likes me said well she is getting gifts so it should be ok. The sa ringing me up looked puzzled but went ahead with the sale. Then around the middle of January I went back to the outlet and returned some things that I decided I didn't want. I had bought 2 different styles of the same patchwork print purse and was bringing back the one I didn't want. I was also returning a wallet. Thats it and I had the receipts. Well guess who was working the register---Yes--the sa who had made the comment before. Of course my luck. Well she was very rude while doing my return and was saying things to the other sa next to her that I couldn't hear. I was floored.

Then about two weeks ago I got the "letter". It was addressed to me, my husband, and my teenage daughter. I called the outlet and asked to speak to my sa that likes me. She apologized but acted dumb as to why I would have gotten the letter. In the letter it says you cannot buy from coach period. They have accused me of being an entrepreneur. I would love to send corporate pictures of my closet. I decided to test it out and see if I would be able to order off coach.com and get a op art cosmetic case I had been wanting. Well guess what--I got it no problem.

I thought maybe my name was blacklisted but it must be tied to your credit card information. After researching this on the internet I have come to this conclusion--It takes an SA to turn you in to corporate. I know that girl did it to me. I looked back over my receipts and I did buy 6 of the same keychain and 6 of the same case. WOW and this is what they call excessive buying of the same like items??? My sister who lives out of state has 3 chihuahuas and I bought them the same collar so I guess that went against me too. I am not going to let this stop me from buying Coach. This is a free country. I can buy from my local department store or just go to a different outlet and pay cash. I am going to FL in 3 weeks and will pass several outlets along the way.

I can understand Coach trying to cut down on resellers but this is ridiculous. I have been in the outlet before and seen ladies buying armfuls of stuff at a time--do they get a letter????? I just wonder how many other innocent "coach obsessed" people will get the letter. I was reading on a post last night where a lady bought 3 sabrinas and took one back. Will she get a letter???--I mean this is crazy. My husband thinks I should just take everything back (that is new) and never buy Coach again. I just can't do that--I love the sytles. But if they would concentrate on the fake bags flooding the market I think that would make more sense. I think they should have to have proof before they accuse someone of being a reseller. I am contemplating calling corporate. What would you guys do? Thanks for any advice.

CAll or email corporate with your personal collection as you indicated!!! I think that is a fantastic idea!!!!! Good for you on not giving up on your love! Tee hee hee! In conclusion...what BS!!!!!!! My mom does the same thing at Christmas time at the outlet. No lie, she will drop thousands every year....she has two daughters, a daughter in law, and 6 grand(girls)kids!!!! Why wouldn't she buy mass quantities of one item. I see it from Coach's perspective but man do they realize there has got to be a better way??? (I guess maybe...is there?)

I can't believe it is the SA's doing that....can anyone confirm that?

I would call corporate. Invite them to come see that you are using all the bags or have given things as gifts. It probably was that SA. That's terrible. All these terrible stores make me love my outlet more, but I'm so afraid to buy coach as gifts now!

OMG!!!!!!!!! i am so afraid it will happen to me each time i go to my outlet after reading these posts...i go in with my three kids and panic that someone will say..oh no her again!!!,,i am a small spender and only get a few items..i was there the other day and bought a scribble..i exchanged some factory stuff for my haversack which i thought was a better find...
i can tell u that i have been in my outlet and there was a woman who had 50 yes 50!! wristlets of the same color and was paying for them,,the sa was even helping her check if they all had tags..i think it is the "luck" of the draw...all my sa'a are supernice to me..but it just takes one to mess u up..

I'm sorry this happened to you. I think if I'm in your position I would bring all my bags that has tags attached to it and returned everything and say goodbye to coach or if you really love the products you can always pay cash from now on.

I do think the amount of people getting "the letter" lately is crazy. Most of the time when we return something we turn around and replace it with something else so money hardly ever comes out of Coachs pocket. But you should NOT let this stop you from going to the outlet, or the boutique for that matter. You are spending money on their product, isn't that supposed to be the point?? Keep going back and DO NOT let that rude little SA stop you. ;)

I would call corporate, take pics of my collection and ask for an email address to send them, report the rude ass SA and ask exactly what the reason for this letter is. This is complete and utter BS!! I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Thanks for sharing your story and opinion with us.

I definitely think you need to do a few things. First of all, I would visit the outlet you frequently buy from and speak to the manager about the SA that was so rude to you and also turned you in. This is completely unacceptable. It seems that she has a personal grudge against you or something!

Secondly I would most definitely send a message to corporate, detailing your spending habits and also including pictures of your personal collection.

I understand why Coach sends out the "letter" (my hubby works at a high end retailer and they do this as well) but I think that in this instance it is out of line. I'm glad you have decided to not swear off coach all together.

Good luck and please keep us posted on what happens!

How awful! I am so sorry they banned you.. that is ridiculous in my opinion! I really think you should let them know about your collection and how you buy gifts.. they should be happy some is a loyal customer like you! I don't really see how they can tell someone they aren't welcome to buy at the store.. it just doesn't make sense. As for resellers, I don't like the fact that they scoop up the good stuff and put it on ebay, but they are free to do it.. at least I would like to think I am able to do what I want with MY stuff that I purchase :shrugs:

You've worded this in an explanatory manner, and maybe you should put it into letter form and send it to COACH along with pictures of your collection. That way they will see that you still own the items!

I'm sorry to hear when this happens to anyone who is just COACH-Obsessed. I have seen people with the COACH In-Store tote bags filled to the top with COACH items. They shop with multiple people, even guys, and they ALL have the In-Store tote bag filled up! Whenever I see this, I immediately think that they are *Bay sellers. I've yet to notice any of them have a problem at check-out! The other day I noticed an *Bay seller with atleast "6" Ellie Satchels listed, and they're still out there! Maybe they didn't purchase all of them on the same day, but COACH as access to the buyers name and perhaps they could work with eBay to identify some of these suspected re-sellers. Instead, they are quick to send these blanket letters without having done a full & fair investigation.

I also agree with you that it might have been 'that SA' who reported you.

One of the nasty & disturbing things about this letter, is that you are immediately banned without the opportunity to explain your buying habits. That's why I think that if they can see that your purchases are still in your possession, maybe it would convince them that you just love to own and give away their products as gifts.

Best of Luck to you!

Thank you for the advice. I think I will call corporate tomorrow. I don't know if it will do any good to call the outlet again. I thought the sa that liked me would do something/say something about it. All she did was apologize and act like she didn't know what caused some people to get letters. I am going to take a picture of my collection and my daughters and I will post it later. I know I could email it to coach. Thanks again.

I am nervous too...I frequently buy outlet bags and leave the tags on them until I use it...if in the meantime I find something I like better or they didn't have before...I will return it...there is nothing wrong with that...I always have the reciepts and usually end up spending more anyways!!! Why do they care? They still have my money and then some! If they have a return policy that limits your returns then fine...but they don't! I would be very irate if I couldn't shop at coach anymore just because I have a hard time making up my mind!!! GRRR!:cursing:
