My Experience with the "Letter"

i am sorry this happened but from what I've read about this letter i can see a justification for it. it is one thing to be Coach obsessed and quite a different thing to just be shopping obsessed. i have collected Coach bags since i was 12 .i absolutely love the brand. if i want a bag i will pay full price and have only returned things that just didnt work. to compulsively visit the outlets and return several bags at a time sounds more like a problem and i can see why any brand or department store would be concerned. that type of behavior messes up the companies bottom line. you mess up the companies profit line if you constantly return items. the ebay issue is a whole nother monster. if iit were your store i'm sure you would do the same thing.

Wow. Well, I am sorry you got the letter. Reading thru these posts have just further solidified in my mind why I pretty much "left" this brand and my loyalty to it, a while ago.

Rude and uneducated SA's, mystery policies, and discrepancies in the information they communicate to the public. It just goes on and on and on with them. No thank you.

Ironically they have this reseller problem because they have the outlets to begin with. You don't see this happening with LV. Why, because they (unlike Coach) don't chose to overproduce their lines and then need to pony the remaining stock out at outlets for half price, devaluing the brand. And because eBay power sellers can't stroll into and LV "outlet", purchase a one month old bag for 75% off and then turn around and sell it at a 100% profit, they don't have this issue, and a lot of other designers don't as well.

Once of my last negative experiences (and there were MANY) that sealed the deal for me was I was at a local outlet with a fellow tPFer friend. One of the SA's strolled over and told us, and only us "the manager wanted me to tell you that you are only allowed to buy one of each style today, if you want any more than that, you will have to come back next week". I laughed because I never buy in multiples, so this comment was particularly amusing to me. Not only was it inappropriate, but it was discriminated specifically to only my friend and I. Nobody else in the entire store was given this information, and believe me, I was listening. Needless to say, I was on the phone with the regional manager the next day reporting the situation. She wasn't happy to learn one of her managers was incorrectly spouting incorrect polices.
It is just not worth the headache for handbags. Sometimes Coach is just like an abusive boyfriend. If he hits you, LEAVE HIM!

I would email or send a letter to corporate that is just wrong they should be thankful that we are still spending money on their products even in this economy. I'm glad you're not giving up on Coach but you really should do something about the "letter" it was just wrong of them to send it to you.

Are you serious??? I've never heard of a "letter" banning someone from shopping at store. I mean, seriously, the consumer is buying the merchandise not stealing it. And I guess Coach is doing pretty well considering they can afford to cut people off. Don't get me wrong, I've been pleased with Coach but this is the most hairbrained idea I've ever heard. Especially when you're talking about a lady that's spent an a**load of money on Coach products. Zoesma, you're a better woman than I...don't know that I would ever give Coach another dime if they did that to me.

That being said, I understand about Coach trying to stop resellers...That being said, when I went to Gaffney, SC several weeks ago for my first outlet visit, the SAs didn't seem concerned about this at all. Evidently, they were more concerned with meeting their sales quota. There was a woman in there with both arms slap full of handbags and the SAs were carrying more for her...good thing I got my bag before she got there. I looked at my friend and told her then that she must be an ebay seller... AND I agree that when bags end up in the outlets for so much less than retail people are going to resell...anything to turn a profit.

Zoesma, sorry this happened to you. I personally think in your situation, it's pretty crappy...JMHO...like I said, you are a better woman than I. Good luck getting it straightened out and if nothing changes, well...at least give them a good piece of your mind and then I'd return everything, lol.

i'm so sorry to hear about your experience. well so far with me i've gotten attitudes from SA's at my boutique (fyi the only one in my city) after i returned most of my accessory purchases from summer last year in exchange for the 3 juliannes and purple patent soho that i own right now. that's how much worth of accessories i purchased.. can you believe that?? i'd rather get a bag for that amount instead of accessories who knows will see the light of day! :p

I was at my outlet last Saturday and there were three women shopping together and they had at least 50 wristlets between them and they all went to the same SA to check out. They had to be buying to resell on ebay.

Hey, I'm just curious... How much were you spending in one trip and how often. This gets me nervous because I live so far away from the outlet I shop at so when I go I usually buy for all my friends and a few for me. I do end up selling some simply because its too far of a drive to return any if I change my mind or one of my friends changes her mind so I might sell for that reason, too. I am definitely not one of those major Coach sellers though. I sell some used ones here and there, too.

I applaud this post; you are ABSOULUTELY correct.

I too have sold off my Coach items and moved on to LV. Uneducated SAs and ridiculous policies, not to mention every woman in my town having a Coach bag. I listed 8 of my bags, clearly marked as used, on ebay and had them removed after a few hours. Ebay was told to remove them by Coach. I was banned from selling Coach for 90 days. Of course I contacted the Coach number I was given and of course they never responded. I waited the 90 days and am listing only a few at a time. I have had enough and althought I really, really love the deisgns, it's just not worth the stress. Coach IS like an abusive boyfriend and I AM DONE!

As I've stated before, people have been banned from department stores (yes, ENTIRE department stores) due to excessive return patterns or other unusual (i.e red flags at LP usually) buying or return patterns, so this is not exclusive to Coach.

This is true. I was banned from Macy's for 2 years. Now, I am no longer banned. I have no clue why I was banned, I was just asked not to come back to any Macy's for a period of 2 years. This was about 5 years ago. Still have no clue why. Never returned a thing there.
