My Birkin was stolen

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I keep my orange boxes out of sight and never let the cleaner or others do work if I'm not at home. I just don't trust leaving my house to anyone especially given that H is a well known brand to many nowadays. While I don't think that the OP can recoup her loss, letting the cleaning company know is a must.

If you are in the US you should go on yelp and the other websites where people can write reviews of businesses and point out that this cleaning company hired employees that stole an expensive handbag. The company should be more careful about background checks, etc. when hiring people. And your review may protect some other person from losing an expensive item.

Also, I keep my B in a small safe that is bolted to my closet floor. It's not totally perfect, like a hotel safe, but would take a while to get into. I got it off Amazon and it was easy to install. We also have a good alarm/camera system, but you can never be too careful these days.

I am so sorry this happened to you!!

Unfortunate you were violated and this happened to you, but so glad to hear it was rectified and you received the proper compensation!

I was recently abroad after my mother's passing and our housekeeper of almost 4 years stole cash from my father and me while he was home alone. It's sad but you can't really trust anyone, we just learn and need to be more careful! Please let us know what you'll be replacing it with :)

I want to let you all know that I received an email from the insurance company. I’m pretty shocked, actually. They’ve mailed me a check for the purchase price of my Birkin, including the sales tax. I am seriously in shock. I’d rather have my beautiful bag back but this does ease the pain.
I'm glad that the insurance company helped to ease your pain. It is not as easy to replace any B especially if some colors are not readily available. Do you mind sharing if you've a blanket insurance on all your luxury bag or one policy per each bag? Is the premium high ? I would like to explore a bag insurance. TIA.

it was actually covered under my regular homeowners insurance. i have to say I was surprised.

I’m so sorry to hear about your bag and glad you got the check from the insurance at least.
I’m also insured under my regular homeowners insurance, but recently I decided to rent a safety box to storage some of my H bags that are not in use and my occasion jewelry. I have alarms, cameras, a safe at home and a very trustworthy cleaner that works for me for years, but still can’t even think about having my bags stolen…everything I have I worked really hard to pay for!

I’m so sorry to hear that. Hopefully insurance and police will be helpful. One workaround that my friend used is to always be home when house cleaning people come. She’ll refuse to come out when they’re expected to arrive.

I also never left when we had a cleaner over. We just wanted her to clean the bathroom and it took her so long that we spent hours on the weekend just watching movies at home instead of going out. Plus she didn't even clean it as well as I could. So it kind of annoyed me. At some point I found an excuse to say goodbye and just did it myself. So much faster and better without the additional headache of trust etc.

Oh, one story I heard about someone's domestic helper: she would steal individual jewelry pieces, so the owner started searching and asking around in her family and staff for it. Then the helper put it back, so it would seem to everyone that the owner was just confused. Happened a couple of times. Until she stole several pieces, which didn't make it back... Some where eventually found at a local pawn shop.

That’s a smart thief
