My beautiful Birkin in colvert was stolen by housekeepers. This was their first time at my apartment, and they were from what I thought was a reputable company. I hadn't used the bag all summer, and when I got the box down from the shelf in my closet, it was empty! I'm so upset. I filed a claim with my homeowners insurance but even if they approve the claim, it won't be enough to buy a new one. So sad.

I'm so sorry  this is horrible. I hope it won't ruin the holidays for you, though I would be under a cloud for a long time myself. Will the housekeeping company do anything for you? I would think that's a huge benefit of working with a company, so they can deal better with this incident than hiring an individual.

I would also complain to the management company.
Hope you get it back.

I am so sorry this happened to you

The only thing is, if you had not taken it down all summer, it’s possible that the insurance co and the management co
might suggest that it went missing before the first time the housekeepers came to clean.

ETA: was your maintenance company insured and bonded? My cleaning person is not, but comes with storing personal referrals. I do recall my insurance company asking how long I’ve known the person.

There is a thread that discusses the differing levels of trust members have with their cleaning people (which may not help now, but may provide food for thought for your next hire). I sincerely hope you can recover your B or be compensated.

Thanks, all. I can be sure they did it because no one has been in my closet since they were here. And I had taken down the bag before they were here. I was going to use it but changed my mind. I filed a police report and told all this to the detective.
Well since you should have the name(s) of those who came to your home through the cleaning company, I think that should be most helpful.

Unless there’s video surveillance footage of them taking the item or the item resurfaces in the second hand market and links back to the cleaners, it would be hard to hold them accountable for anything….I suspect

Goodness. I had my SO K20 stolen not long ago in my place (made a whole thread). What is happening?! It seems now more than ever our bags are not safe!!! Can you call the police? In the UK they are not very helpful. If you have enough ‘evidence’ you can have a strong case especially if these people came from a company which will usually have a really good insurance. But how horrible. And what an intrusion!!!

Yikes! I’m sorry this happened to you. I would be so pissed AND hurt AND violated. Hopefully the detectives can help and you at least get reimbursed thru insurance but we all know getting a birkin isn't just about getting the money to replace it ugh! I would definitely file a report and take it a step further and write reviews everywhere that I could about the incident. Bad reviews and social media complaints tend to get the companies moving. Providing proof may be hard, unfortunately.

We have locks on our main closet with the shock sensor connected to our alarm if someone kicks it in, not to mention cameras  We’ve had the same housekeepers for years and I always roll my eyes (secretly lol) at my hubby when he’s adamant about keeping the closet locked and not wanting anyone to see what’s in there (he has a lot of memorabilia that can’t be replaced even with money) to not be tempted. We travel a lot which is really what all of that “protection” is for. After reading this thread I will ease up a little.

I'm sorry this happened to you, it must be awful. In my neck of the woods we don't have cleaning companies but just single people who come to clean. I'm always very suspicious: I keep my bags in a hidden place which they don't know about and I still hide my every day jewelry (when I don't wear it) and we've had this cleaning lady for almost 2 years now. She's super trustworthy but still....better safe than sorry!
