More diamonds, should I or shouldn't I?

All the $ values are interesting. I'll find out the stats on the HOF ring for comparison and comment. I will also find out some stats for a local jeweller's unbranded hearts and arrow ring with halo. The centre stone was .86 and the price was $9k.

yellow will be LHR and the solitaire or new/reset halo as RHR.

You won't be surprised that I'd might consider forgetting the colorless and hold out for a yellow sola as a pendant for when one day I actually make it to the US.

The pendant is gorgeous, but have you tried it on yet?? I tried a .70 carat center and it felt very "bottom heavy" and didn't sit flat against my neck/chest. It hung at an angle! It was a little disappointing.

I think the .86 for 9k is a reasonable price (it's a HOF correct?) since it's a designer piece, but then again I defer that judgment to others who have more experience than me!

I agree with Swanky. 10.5K is quite high for a 1.0 tcw ring (without knowing the 4Cs). Hearts on Fire is not the only ones with perfectly cut diamonds. You should shop around.

I'm a believer is resetting. If you have a high quality diamond that you are not using, then reset to something you like. Funny you should mention the halo because I also have an old pendant that I am no longer fond off and is thinking of resetting in with a halo. My jeweler is willing to do it for about $300.

Thanks for your comments to Mimster. I had a feeling the price was high for so little a diamond. The Transcend style only has a single halo as well and I felt it was a little 'antique' looking. I think I prefer a cushion cuts over the square cut too. I hadn't even considered re-setting the pendant before this thread so great to see another supporter. Still need to think whether I should re-set as a pendant or re-set as a halo ring to wear rings inter-changeably.

The document doesn't mention the setting which is platinum. Nor does it provide information on the other smaller stones but I was told tcw about 1ct.

I would love to know how prices compare to US so I can weigh it up with a re-setting cost.

This is all I have.

Personal comments, it has lots of sparkle and impressive finger coverage. It looks good on me and if I saw someone with this on, it would probably catch my attention day or night. The jeweller is not far from my office and has been in the area for decades. They don't even have the special showroom lighting because apparently their jeweller customers don't like it. Their workshop is onsite.

This ring actually sparked my research as I didn't want to buy it and then find out later that I paid several thousand too much. I also wanted to see the Tiffany yellow diamond to choose one or the other but they're are just impossible to compare. To me the yellow diamond makes me feel happy because I love the colour yellow and this one looks like one big stone but isn't.

I'm pretty sure I've looked at blue nile for something similar but I'll give it another go.

HOF diamonds are usually way more expensive than other diamonds. That said, HOF tries really hard to get them to "hold their value" -- my stone from the year 2000 is now selling for what I paid for it PLUS half again that amount. (so if my stone was 10k, its now, 11 years later, selling for 15k.) That said, I can't actually "sell" it for that amount, so its a moot point--except I could probably sell it for close to what I paid for it. It sounds like you've got a few new rings to play with. Resetting the pendant seems like an affordable way to go--you can always put something else in the pendant if you want. How about an affordable champagne diamond?

If you are really into this look:

1) Reset the pendant diamond into the ring
2) put a champagne or other stone into the pendant setting

You'll save a bunch of cash that way and have more money for the next look you like!

Good luck!

I agree about HOF. The first ring I ever looked at was a HOF diamond. They are way expensive. Also, as Saligator said, you can't sell a diamond for anything close to what jewelers do. It is a very tightly protected market.

I too am from Australia. My e-ring is .71 centre stone with a halo setting and I don't know the exact cost, but, I know it was around $10.5-$13k. Mine is D colour, VS1, so, depends on the diamond I guess, that price seems ok to me. Wow, I should travel to America and get myself another diamond ring. Prices seem very reasonable.

Thanks for your tips saligator. Good to hear from someone with a HOF. Are you happy with the stone, do you think the sparkle is noticeably better than most non-HOF stones? From the HOF ring I tried, I just didn't think it had as much bling as the other ring I tried which is bigger and cheaper. Maybe its the effect of size. I thought it was very white but lacked sparkle which was a bit strange since HOF are designed for maximum light return - I was wondering whether it was my inexperience with diamonds.

Thanks Allisonfaye. I imagine most girls who buy or receive diamonds do not really plan to sell although I have noticed something about Tiffany upgrades which I've never heard of.

Did you compare HOF to say Tiffanys? Do they have about the same premium on price compared to unbranded?

GucciGoddess3, was yours a branded ring? Isn't the price difference shocking. You could have a free holiday to the States with the savings on another diamond ring. I've already convinced my bestie that's where she needs to go while our dollar is strong :p. I so badly want to go too! There are online options but I just can't get my head around buying a diamond sight unseen.

Yep... Diamonds are quite pricier here in Aust... Our local jewelers here have same prices as Tiffany's! On average 1ct cost from about $12-13k... and all the .70+- would be around $10k!

I tried on a .76 F VSS1 Tiffany ribbon ring yesterday and that was $10,480 .. I went to a "wholesale jeweler" and they had a .75 D VSS1 solitaire for $10,800 and a split shank holo 1.01ct RB F eye clean SI1, 1.3 ctw for $14,900!!

If you have your heart set on the yellow sola then I would just wait and save up more to get the one that you really really want. In the mean time, you could reset the pendant you do not use?

I noticed that too. For local jeweller price here, you get Tiffanys in the US. I wonder what the prices are like in Asia which is generally renowned for being cheaper than here.

I love the yellow sola as a ring but still unsure how it looks as a pendant on me. For ages, I've only worn costume jewelery around my neck. I must take that pendant out of the safe and give it another chance. I may have taken it off because the yellow gold chain didn't match the silver phase I was going through.
