More diamonds, should I or shouldn't I?

I mostly read on tpf so this is my first thread. All comments pos and neg welcome.

So as you can tell I have a question that is seemingly obvious but it's a lot of money to spend so I would like to gather various opinions out there.

Starting with background on what I have. A 1ct solitaire in white gold (like a Tiffany solitaire). The next one I just purchased but don't have it yet - its a .71 yellow diamond in a colorless halo setting (similar to Tiffany sola - see mascara kohl's "I Got It" thread). Neither are engagement rings as the original was lost years ago.

Now the problem, should I even be looking at a Hearts on Fire Transcend ring. Is it OTT to have both and do you think the price is relatively ex$$ for what it is? Details. A centre stone of .7 ct with halo and the smaller stones totaling 1ct. The SA has just told me the price has gone up but she can keep the old price for me at $10,500. She said essentially I get the platinum ring for free because a loose stone of same size would cost the same.

Hi dontsaycovet! What are the specs of the .70 carat? Personally, I don't think three rings are too much as long as you get a lot of wear out of the old ring and the new Transcend ring. I would wear the Transcend ring interchangeably with the 1 ct solitaire now and then to switch it up. Do you plan to wear the yellow diamond ring as a RHR? If you feel like you won't get a lot of wear out of your solitaire, you can always reset the stone into a pendant or earrings if you can find a mate!

Thanks for quick response swanky. Affordability is okay, I'm big on saving so now I'm debt free with enough savings to splurge on self. Interesting comment on price though, I live in Australia. Prices must be a lot cheaper for a quality diamond in the US. How much would you expect it to cost over there?

Ooo you have another .70 carat - yes, I would reset it into a halo setting! That would save quite a bit of $$!!!

I'm glad you're here to help kohl. :D I'm reluctant to reset the ring solitaire because that's my wedding present from my parents. Never thought about resetting the pendant for some reason.....hmmmm... Can't do earrings though, allergic.

I agree with Swanky. 10.5K is quite high for a 1.0 tcw ring (without knowing the 4Cs). Hearts on Fire is not the only ones with perfectly cut diamonds. You should shop around.

I'm a believer is resetting. If you have a high quality diamond that you are not using, then reset to something you like. Funny you should mention the halo because I also have an old pendant that I am no longer fond off and is thinking of resetting in with a halo. My jeweler is willing to do it for about $300.

I don't know the details much besides it's a vvs. HOF brand have their own classifications so it's hard to keep track. It does have high specs though. How does the price compare to over there?

yellow will be LHR and the solitaire or new/reset halo as RHR.

You won't be surprised that I'd might consider forgetting the colorless and hold out for a yellow sola as a pendant for when one day I actually make it to the US.

Just as Swanky said, a .7 ct diamond with upper end specs should sell for around $3500, maybe even a little less, at least in the U.S. Take a look at bluenile.com, they have a diamond finder feature that lets you pick your specs and see pricing. Maybe you could even order from them or another U.S. based site?

I think Tiffany's charges more for a full carat to be honest.
A full carat w/ ideal cut would be somewhere around $6k USD for the stone only, not at Tiffany's.

It really all depends on the specs of the diamond. I just did a blue nile search for the best cut at 0.7 cts it ranges from $2300 to $9300 depending on color and clarity. For a 1.0 ct the range is $5800 (I, SI1) to $25,500 (D, IF). I know this is only bluenile and maybe you can get things a bit cheaper at a private jeweler but it should still give you an idea.
