If you haven't considered a lab diamond, their prices fall somewhere between earth-mined diamonds and moissanites.

But this is really comparing apples to oranges for me. Moissanites are not diamonds and they do not perform like diamonds or look like diamonds, especially in the 2 ct range. Which stone do you like better? If you prefer a moissanite, get a moissanite, but if you prefer the performance of a diamond, a moissanite will not do the same job.

I have considered lab created diamond , but I did some research that moissanites sparkle more than diamonds.

I guess the only reason that a natural diamond is one of the options is because it’s a diamond in the traditional sense. If I am not paying for a natural diamond, then I’d rather have a moissanite which sparkles more.

Currently, my engagement ring is a solitaire from Tiffany, but it’s small in carat size. To be honest, I kind of regret the purchase. Not to sound ungrateful for what my husband gifted me. I regret because I should have done more research and not go for a brand name. With the price we paid at Tiffany, we could have gotten a better diamond ring elsewhere.

On paper, moissanite indeed sounds amazing with more sparkle etc etc. But if you get used to seeing diamonds and moissanites in person, you will for sure develop a taste for one or the other (and my bet is on diamond). Diamonds sparkle "sharper"; moissanite with double refraction just gets kinda fuzzy around the edges and the sparkles are more on the surface, lazier.

Moissanites are great stones for the money but they are not diamonds.

I'd go for second-hand or lab diamond (or second-hand lab diamond!) for savings, if you enjoy the way your diamond sparkles.

Or just get a moissanite to play with, it won't break the bank. Maybe you'll even be fine with it, which would be very nice on the wallet.

I’m not fond of moissanites. I recommend going to try them on in the carat range you’re interested in. You may find that you aren’t fond of them either. If you are craving a larger diamond, I don’t think a moissanite will satisfy you. Given the choice between the two, I’d always choose diamond.

So I think it kind of depends on:

1) What type jewelry piece you're going to have the stone in?
If you're going to have it in an earring, then I would go for moissanite, in case it falls out or gets lost, at least you won't feel "as bad". lol
A necklace or a ring is a little more secure.

2) Where are you going to wear your piece?
If you are going to bring this piece traveling, then I'd go with moissante as well, in case it gets lost or stolen, again, you won't feel "as bad".
I prefer to not wear my diamonds when I travel (exception is probably my wedding and engagement ring, when I go to visit family internationally). And I like moissante as a great travel choice for jewelry.

3) And whether you care if other people can tell if it is a moissanite or diamond?
While moissanites and diamonds look very similar, they do have some slight differences.
Moissanites are known for their beautiful sparkle. Their refractory properties are even greater than diamonds, so depending on the cut and clarity, they can shine more brilliantly than diamonds.
The color of a diamond shine is actually different than a moissanite. Diamond color is more colorless. While, moissanite color, when it sparkles, tends to have a bit of the rainbow in it. Also, the bigger the moissanite size, the more obvious that rainbow color will show through in the sparkle.

Just a few things to consider.
Either way, both beautiful stones!

For me personally, if I wanted a slightly larger size, I would see if I can get it through a lab diamond.

Moissanites don’t look that great (to me) when they’re larger imho. They sparkle oddly rainbow-ish to my eyes and looks artificial. I know a girl who received a 3+ stone ring, and although the setting was gorgeous, the stone just didn’t look right to my eyes. It definitely wasn’t a diamond and ended up looking costume/statement jewelry-like. I am pretty confident it’s a moissanite, but if she loves then that’s all that matters.
