Hi ladies and gents (if any),

I just purchased a pre-loved Michael Kors Large Selma in practically perfect condition (only used for less than 6 months). The leather is beautiful with no defects and the inside is pristine. My only issue is that the feet at the bottom of the bag are a bit scratched and two of the feet have the gold fading to silver. I know that eventually over time the legs will tarnish protecting the bottom of the bag, but I was wondering if Kors offers replacements or if there is a way to neutralize and stop the fading? I am looking into order plain old screen protectors for tablets and using that to cover the bottom of the feet to prevent any more scratching. I know this is silly but I try to look after my bags. It's shocking that only after 6 months the feet can tarnish... the previous owner must have been sliding it around the floor :roflmfao:

Anyway, any help is seriously appreciated. Oh and last question, are there any alternatives to Michael Kors Rain & Stain Protectant? I would love to keep my Kors in great condition. ;)

I have been carrying my black selma with gold for almost 6 months, using it almost everyday and that hasn't happened to me. They must have dragged it a lot and put it in gross places. Anyways, I would stay away from using those screen protectors if they involve alcohol to apply them, because the alcohol will not be good for the finish at all. Possibly look into just coating it with clear nail polish, or I think there is something similar you can buy to coat costume jewelry with to prevent it from tarnishing, or for people to have allergies to the metal.

Hope you find something!

This is one issue that is really bad about Michael Kors. I find they only spray the gold on the silver metal and it eventually wears off. Unlike Coach who uses real brass or nickle that is NOT sprayed. At least with real brass and nickle, you can bring back the brilliance easily, with Brasso or a good metal polish. Using metal polish on MK hardware would just eat off the paint /coating they use. I do like IHeart's idea about the clear polish. Might help for awhile, anyway, but it's still going to come off eventually. It's just paint!

While MK has much more and nicer styles, I hate to admit it, but Coach is much better made. I think many are going to discover this as time goes on. MK better come up with some better ideas, or he is going to end up where Coach is now. It's just a matter of time before MK is in Coach's shoes. Coach just closed down 70 stores in the USA do to competition from Michael Kors and kate Spade, but mostly Michael Kors.

The hardware issue is also a concern of mine. I really don't like that the gold hardware fades and wears off to show the silver underneath. Over time, it really ruins the look of the bag. I try to avoid MK bags with a lot of gold hardware for this reason.

Yep, one of the reasons I prefer the silver hardware, besides I love the look of it too.

Really? Does this actually work?
I would think it would put a clear coating on it. Remember we used to do this to stop runs from spreading on our nylons! lol! Of course purse hardware is completely different, but it sounds like it would protect it for awhile and I have this before from others, as well.

The paint is still going o wear off no matter what you do. Sad. Too bad they don;t use real brass like Coach does.

I actually don't think coach uses real brass on all their bags, I just noticed the other day on my one and only coach where the two rings rub together connecting the bag to the strap it is rubbing off and is silver underneath..... And I thought to myself damnnit I thought this was supposed to be brass guess not. Sigh. Face it we live in such a throw away society basically nothing is made to last anymore :(

You guys inspired me to look at the feel of my Selma. I have the first generation one. And sure snout my feel look horrible. I have more of a rusty colored leave-behind where the gold has scratched. The rest of the hardware looks great. It is only the feet.

I have had not great quality with MK bags. My first bag held up well. My Saffiano Hamilton has loose threads. I got a top handle bag that I had to return as they were unable to repair and the clasp never worked. They are not as durable as my Coaches. Kate Spade is quite hit or miss as well. I have had a 50% lemon rate from Kate Spade.

Not on all of their bags like they used to, but they do still use brass and nickle, but at one time time that was all they used. You just have to seek out the bags with the real brass and nickle and they are quite spendy.

Their newer bags such as their Coach Poppy line, Kristens , etc., you are right. They don't have real brass on them. However , I don't think MK EVER used real brass or nickle and have always just spray painted their metal. Don't get me wrong, MK is my favorite these days, because they have the most gorgeous designs, but I hate to admit it, Coach uses much better materials, depending how much you spend and what line you pick from.

Here is the Coach Patricia Legacy bag. I have two of these, one in Black with nickle and the other in British tan with brass. I have had them for 20 years and when brass or nickle dulls I just polish it and it is brilliant and shining again!. I wish MK would ever use it! Some of the reviews are whining but most of them are just raving about it. The real brass is still used on Coach bags, but you have to look and pay for it! lol!

I agree wit you, Coach is much better made. I hate to admit it, but it's true. I have had some of my Coach legacy bags for over 20 years now and they look fabulous and I have literally put them through hell and back! lol! They will probably outlast me! lol! I don't think the newer ones are made as well as the older ones, much like everything else, sadly. I am glad I bought mine when that were made well.

MK not only has a problem with their hardware fading, they need to do something about their straps!! I see so many on ebay with worn or broken straps on them. Seems to be an issue. But the best thing I like about MK is all the beautiful styles to choose from. I have to say that their older bags were made MUCH better than the newer ones. I buy, sell and trade MK from all 3 decades and the older ones you can just feel and see the difference in the quality, and it is a BIG difference. It is a shame how they cut back on quality these days. Even Coach and all of them are cutting back. What a shame!

^ agree. My first MK bag is holding up better than the new ones. The Miranda is much nicer though. I don't have "legacy" coach bags but coach uses a variety of leathers and treatments too. My urbane shoulder bag is super well made. The pinnacle clutch I have too. The Sophia is showing more wear but looks pretty good. A few lose threads here and there that need to be trimmed. I was not babying that bag.

I have been looking at the Kristen Pinacle! Did you know it is made of goat leather? That is why I want to get one, and yes, I would hope for 698.00, they are using real brass on it! lol!, As I stated, it depends on what models you purchase if they will have the brass or not, and those models will be spendier than the others.

For instance, the regular Kristen won't have it and retailed for what 298.00? Yet the Kristen Pinnacle bag, for 698.00 , has the real brass. Seems you get what you pay for!! I really want that Pinnacle bag! I love goat leather products. My MK Naomi bag is in goat leather and ever since I got it, I have to have goat leather now! lol! Baaahaaa
