Michael Kors "copies" other designers?

I was shocked to see this bag at a MK store. I'm pretty sure I saw one with appliqués as well.
Reasons like this are why I deviated from the brand but I made a conscious effort to not purchase any MK bags that were "borrowed styles". To be completely honest I wasn't aware of just how many of his styles were unoriginal until I joined tPF. After that I purged my bag collection of anything MK with the exception of 3 bags (2 I sold within the past year and I have 1 might give away or sell when I have the time). I think the biggest issue is that a lot of people aren't aware of where his "inspiration" comes from, or at least that's what I notice in my circle of friends and family.

In fairness though when you looking at a bag in the hundreds, your hardly comparing to one that costs thousands .. even if that one is the 'original' designer. Plus if you really starting going through every brand you will find bags awfully similar at all tier levels, do some do it more than others? sure... but i'll argue again if i'm looking at 150$ i don't care what it's 1500$ counterpart is like

One could say that Gucci copied Dior with that bag as well. I've been scouting eBay for a vintage Dior and have seen that shape in Dior monogram. To be honest, a round bag is not exactly a groundbreaking design.

The reason why your circle may not know about MK's inspiration is because they may not shop for bags in those luxury stores. If my price ceiling was $500, what's the point in walking into a Gucci store? I'm not getting a bag at Gucci in that price range. Also, in the grand scheme of things, most women don't care.

I understand where you're coming from but my point was more so that I wasn't as aware until I joined the forum. Upon realization I started to let go of some of those bags. I agree that price can be important (or at least it was to me while in university) however now that I don't have all those costs associated with school I'm willing to spend more.
MK doesn't "copy". He COPIES. That's why I'm never buying an MK bag or wallet. I don't mind designers taking inspiration, but straight up stealing is something I don't want anything to do with.
I agree there's a difference between taking inspiration versus complete duplication, there are several bags that come to mind from MK.

I agree several brands do take inspiration but others take a lot more. In addition, many of my friends don't shop at luxury stores however I was fortunate to have jobs that paid much more than minimum wage throughout university which provided me with more disposable income even after paying for university related costs, car-related expenses and spending on travel/entertainment; I also worked full time hours despite being in school full time which helped out my situation.
