Good point.
Joe Jackson makes my skin crawl. What a lowlife.
Poor Michael....

He is pond scum. Who knew he could create something as special as MJ. Thinking back to the day of the memorial, I remember Joe sitting shotgun in the 1st Rolls. Gee, media whore much? You have to wonder why MJ was so quiet and meek. He wrote many songs about his lost childhood, something definitely traumatized him. MJ seemed like he was so full of love and warmth, like sunshine. I remember during the frivolous lawsuits that he would hold onto Katherine, Janet, and Latoya for support when walking to court but refused to hold onto Joe when Joe tried to lend a hand. When Joe tried to lend a hand, he reached for one of his bodyguards instead. Kinda says something, doesn't it?

Prince is so adorable especially when he puts his hands on his little chin thinking and say "no no the sun goes to the east " how adorable is that?

I feel so bad for these kids losing their daddy

Im going to assume that the bulk of MJs gentle nature was from his mom. He probably got his work ethic from his dad.

I just finished moving, and I have so much reading to catch up on.

But...

Joe Jackson is an old fashioned African American man. He says he never beat his son because according to an older system, he didn't. It's like being whipped in Catholic school. He feels he did a good job because his son was a hard worker, not a violent thug dead before the age of thirty on the street. His tactics were rough, but he comes from sharecroppers. He is not speaking to the current understanding of violence. He's coming from an older system of parenting, and one you find in older African American family systems.

And yeah, I read about the fourth child stuff. Thoughts?

^^ this is true. I never got hit by my parents but they were 'Old School West- indian" and weren't afraid to hit anyone who acted out of line. Even back in the day in the caribbean, teachers would beat kids. I remember I once got suspended from lunch in elementary school (i was supposed to be on lunch but instead i was roaming the halls) and my mother told my principal that if I ever acted out of line he can hit.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I remember watching The View and Star Jones and now Sherri Sheppard would talk about their parents raising a hand to them and Sherri feeling it was necessary to sometimes have to do the same with her son, when he was misbehaving... and Joy and some others would get so angry and call it child abuse.

People have different opinions on that, but hearing Joe Jackson speak brought to mind some previous discussions that were had on The View.
