Men carrying a purse or handbag

I never really received those comments from family or friends, but there have been strangers that commented on it, mostly positive though.
I agree with you on the men's collections, I find that most of the men's pieces do not have the it-factor I'm looking for, although I love them on other men, I just don't like them on myself.
That's why I always try to find women's bags that are still quite unisex, for example the Balenciaga Work or Phillip Lim 31 hour bag. Funny thing is that the last bag I purchased was actually a men's bag, but I just really liked it and to me it had the it-factor this time. :)

I kind of know what you mean...notice my signature. I have LV Hoxton GM, Balenciaga Paiper Shoulder bag on my wishlist.
I am also contemplating for LV Pochette Metis...I wish LV could offer that in 12" by 8" size for men and larger, It would be a no doubt winner. I love the S lock, and it look like a miniature briefcase. Why can't LV make that for men? :p

LOL my mom and some relatives ask the same question. I usually answer it's what I want and I show them pictures of other guys carrying the same bag. Before I decide to buy a bag I like, I have to search for pictures of men carrying that bag first so that I can see if it works for guys and if anyone asks, I can prove that there are other guys out there who are into the same bag as well.

Besides, designer bags made for men are more expensive, usually small, and not iconic.

On the contrary, designer handbags for men are a lot cheaper compare to women's. I believe the purseblog made an entry about this and only difference is men's handbag mostly marketed as a weekender which not practical for daily use.

Sometimes I ask my Mom about her opinion of a bag I am liking and most of the time she'll answer "Yuck! Its not for you!" but in the end of day I'm still the one who have the final say if I'm going to take it or leave it :)

Balenciaga work is still in my wish list but this 2015 I am committed on getting 3.1 Philip Lim Large Pashli in Jade.

I personally prefer more "feminine" bags and it has worked out for me. The design of those handbags appeal to me more than "men" bags. Coach, Michaels Kor, and Kate Spade are the only brands I currently have but I do plan to reach to other brands in hopes of finding another appealing bag. My mom and barber did ask me why I have handbags but I just tell them that I like it.

What kind of handbags? Like the Kate Spade maise?

The only truly negative comments that I've ever gotten were from my long-time ex-girlfriend. I'm a huge fan of men's briefcases but they aren't exactly great for casual wear so I usually end up using one of my LVs or H bags that aren't mens designs.

The attached pictured of a male SA from a fellow TPFer is what convinced me to get a more overtly feminine bag.

This bag looks like it can work well with guys, except I would prefer the leather to be just plain rather than with all the elaborate embroidery on it.

I think it's great that you carry what you want and I love your style!
I can't understand how men get along without them! Do they just carry their things in a bulky briefcase? Lunchbox? Or god forbid, fanny-pack? I Know how they get along when they're with me-they dump all of their things in MY bag!

They actually did! Its just vintage and some of it is in Epi and others are in Monogram.. Not really in the Metis shape, but its similar but more 'briefcase' like.

Most of the points stated above I totally agree as a man.

So true!
I can't leave without a bag because I hate having bulky pockets.

Ooooomph I love guys carrying Celine Luggage! (btw I'm a girl but love unisex bags & outfit) - go get it! Or a Celine Phantom <3
I think afterall really don't care much about what the others say. They have stereotypes and will always have that in mind. Often times it's about the proportions and the outfit! For example, I've seen a guy pulling off Celine nano luggage pretty well :)

Many of the bags designed for the men collection are boring and you couldn't differciate between a designer bag and a bag from street hawker.. why bother to spend money on that when you have the option to get a "women" but nice bag when you can rock it?

I do love Fendi's peekaboo for men but I can't pull off due to my height :( Have been very jealous of the guys who have that bag!
