Congrats MadameM and Jen, on your gorgeous choices! It is so hard to stop at one of these - here is one that I chose when it first came out while I was abroad in Italy. Am wearing it today in fact since it reminded me so much of the sunset on our plane ride home the other day. This time I will be waiting to see all the colorways and designs before leaping now that I have three. And with price increases on the silks, I suppose these are a much better bet :)

It's so beautiful, lanit, and another inspiration from you. Thanks for sharing.

So perfect!!!

Silky friends - it's time for us to talk about the maxi twilly and do an assessment of them. The new season designs and colors are out and I am on the fence about buying more. I'm hoping everyone with maxi twillies can chime in and add their two cents about them. Perhaps there are some pros or cons I have not thought of?

Here's my take. I have a black and dark maroon calvacadour:
Pros:
- I think they are useful for warmer days
- They add a punch of color to an outfit
- The silk (for me) has held up quite well and I think the quality is pretty good. Although I would like to hear from others that have worn theirs more often than I have. I don't mind that it doesn't have a rolled hem
- Reasonable price

Cons:
- I don't reach for them as much as other scarves. I find the width a bit hard to tame. It always ends up looking very floppy or sloppy unless I spend a lot of time securing all the silk.
- I don't think they provide much warmth for cold winters
- I can't figure out if it works better with a casual outfit or dressy outfit.
- My waist is not thin enough to make it look good as an obi belt like a lot of the women here. So I lose out on that one very awesome way to tie it.

What about you guys? Please share with the rest of us if yours has lived up to your expectation. I'd love to hear how others have felt about theirs.

I have two Brazils and the one Calvacador MYH. I would say I wear these when I am headed out to dinner with family and feel no pressure about them getting dirty (as I do my 90 silks). I think the price point is great. To be candid the new designs do not ring my bell, but if another season with other designs are offered I will be open to them. They are wide, but I like the way they can be layered with my cashmere cowl necks. I tend to agree they can be slippery, but the new enamel scarf rings go well with them, so that is another option. I will wait a while and see if I reach for them this year. You make good points. And I do not wear mine as a belt either.

Hi there, MYH!
Thanks for posting this question. Hopefully, future scarf buyers can use the info to make an informed decision. I really like the Maxi Twillys. I use them as much as my 90cm and 140 cm scarves. Here is specifically what I like:

1) I use my scarf rings more with them, especially the mors scarf ring.
2) I feel Maxi Twillys works better with certain styles of clothing than a 90 or 140. For example, I prefer a maxi twilly with an open cardigan.
3) Like you previously mentioned, I also think the Maxi Twilly is a perfect summer scarf.
4) You can really tie some fabulous knots and have the appropriate tails but without the bulk.

Thanks for your replies Taylorrd and Lanit! Like Lanit, I'm not really loving this season's designs and I guess since I live on the east coast where it's cold right now, I'm not really chomping at the bit to get a "summer" scarf. I think that wearing the Maxi Twilly with a cardigan is a great idea Taylord. I agree it works well when a 90cm or 140cm doesn't, but couldn't figure out outfit would fit the bill. Now I know!

Hopefully more people can chime in about this topic. The more the merrier.

The new ones are on US H.Com
Kachinas already sold out.
Just my humble opinion, but I do not think the kachinas design on this Maxi Twilly does the original design any justice at all. I get the strange feeling that many resellers have bought this design hoping to resell.

I also do not like the Kachinas MT- it looks rather odd the way the design was configured. I am a huge KO fan and am not buying it.

Regarding the MT in terms of a scarf- it is not my cup of tea esp. if there are concerns that it is not produced like a regular twill with color screens. It just looks like a big expensive sash to me- something I made in home ec. back in the day.

I think the Brazil and the Cavalcadour were executed well for the MT format. I am unenthusiastic about either the Kachinas or the Astrologie Nouvelle MTs, the floating kachina dolls remind me of children's pajamas.

My favorite way to wear the MT is to tie a knot in the center and just let it hang loose. The knot shortens it just a bit and keeps it from sliding off. It also makes it easier to wear folded to half width, as the knot keeps it in place. The Brazil especially looks simple and elegant worn in this manner.
I prefer the Cavalcadour worn like an infinity scarf. I am pleased with these two designs and think they clearly win out over the spring MT offerings.

I tried the AN MT in store and was quite taken with it. I think the way it is sectioned, it folded better as a MT than a 90 or 140. If the cw had worked for me (it was the bright teal that is on h.com), I would have bought it.

Yes Seton - AN is the only design I'm fond of this season but already have 2 cws in silk 140cm so feel like i should take a break from that design. I find the square 140cms much more versatile when it comes to tying. Not sure if this is a good rationale though not to buy another AN...

As a owner of 5 MTs from last season, this season's design leaves me feeling very cold. I agree with you ladies. The kachinas and astro design isn't adapted nicely onto the MT this season. Look like our wallets are safe and we can skip the mayhem of looking for MTs.

Thanks for posting this, MYH. I'll be interested in reading fellow tPFers' views and experiences.

As for me, I really fell for the MTs last season - I have 3 Brazil and 2 Cavalcadour. I wear them pretty regularly as part of the rotation of my H silks.

They feel more appropriate for work or when I want to add a little something extra to a casual outfit. I find they tie well with my Mai Tai shawl and anneaux infinity rings, or even just in a simple weave knot. The Lord blessed me with too many curves to be able to wear these as an obi belt, which is a shame as the MTs look so pretty when worn that way.

I'm not bowled over by this season's offerings, although the AN does look pretty as an infinity scarf. If I decide to buy another MT then it will be in that design, but I'm yet to convince myself that I really need a sixth MT.
