 Hi ladies, I need your help. I am looking for a pair of simple diamond stud earrings in round shape that I will wear them forever. Should I get them with 3 prongs (martini) or 4 prongs or 6 prongs? And why? Thank you in advance.

My question was moved to this thread. I think I got my answers. I can't find the "search" button. Did they take it away? :confused1:

Swanky, I've never compared the two - my solution to the stone tilting downwards was just to buy smaller stones! LOL! :push: And once I got the smaller stones I later changed the the larger stones to bezel set simply because I did not want to have two pairs of diamond stud earrings that look the same! LOL!
IMHO you should probably try to find some martini set diamond earrings in a size similar to yours to try on. You might find that even though they may not droop, you will not see a dramatic appearance between those and your baskets. Therefore, you may want to keep your bezel set ones which do look quite different. While some people think bezel sets take away from some of the sparkle, you already have both types, so you have best of both worlds. Or was it the other way around? Were you going to keep the ones set in bezels and change the other ones? Anyway, I didn't find the difference between 4-prong baskets with diamond set low and martinis to be that noticeable (especially with large back holding them up). Both are beautiful and I think when you put the earrings on the 4-prongs still look round. That's just my two cents after weeks of obsessing on this. I didn't have an easy time finding martinis to try on but Helzberg Diamonds did have some (though not as large as yours)....have fun....you have a good problem

I merged your question to this thread because they're the same topic.
The search feature has been gone for more than a week, check Feedback Dropbox &/or Announcements for updates.

Thanks for the input. I LOVE the 2+ cttws in the Peretti bezel style which just looks expensive. The stones are stunning in the bezel setting and sit perfectly on the ear so I was not thinking of changing the bezel at all. I am also happy with the smaller 1.5 cttw in the basket but would consider changing those to martini if the martini setting does indeed show more of the stone since the smaller 1.5 cttw stones are very white and ice clear. It's something I might look into ... just curious and wondering....

Venus...try taking your earrings to the store you bought them at. They may change the setting for free to keep a good customer. Also, if you don't have the large disc backs, invest in them. They really keep the earrings upright, and can be used with any stud-like earring. I noticed a big difference between settings, and your diamonds sound very white and sparkly. Why not show off their beauty?

I have had bezel, 4 prong basket and martini's I love the way the martini setting sits on the ear, there is absolutely no drooping. The bezels on my first pair of earrings were too thick and it took away from the diamond.

I have two sets of studs.

The 1.0cttw set is 4 prong set, and the 2.0cttw is 3 prong martini set. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the martini setting much better. I haven't found any drooping issues either and my larger set is the 3 prong-er. So I'm not sure what the cause for drooping is. I'm sure its just different for every individual.

I think I'm going to have my other set reset in a 3 prong if I get around to it.

FWIW, my husand's family is in the diamond/jewelry business and the cousin we deal with has some HUGE diamonds in her ears and she doesn't feel that a 3 prong is any less secure than a 4 prong. She says it all depends on who sets it and how well they do it.

I have a 3 prong pear ring that I have owned for a very long time.I have even worn it when outside doing the horses & the prongs are perfectly tight. As long as you get them checked every 6 months, you should be fine.
