MARNI Trunk Bag

I really want to get this bag in the brown color, but need to know the quality is good. I’m seeing mixed reviews on that here, I’m hoping more people who own it can chime in. I know marni isn’t really known for bags so it’s hard to find a lot of reviews on it! All my other bags are french brands, Chloe, Chanel, LV, Celine. This would be my first Italian bag, and I’m hoping it’d last years and years!

I guess it depends on the leather. If you get the smooth kind, they’ll show wear fast from scratches and bending, etc. Mine is saffiano and wear like iron.

Ahh I see, Thanks! I just got the smooth... it’s returnable but I saved about $500 on that vs. the saffiano. Let me see how it appears in person but I was really torn! I love this bag because it’s not everywhere and no one will know what it is, and the style is so chic! I haven’t tried it on in person but hoping it works out. I sold a Celine Box for it!

I hope you like it! Not only it’s beautiful, but it also holds a ton. I love mine very much! [emoji4]

Have any of you trunk ovners experienced problems with scratches on the brass closing? I have worn my beautiful and super cool trunk for only 2 weeks now, and I have been careful, but there are already a few scratches. Further more the strap is missing a piece of leather - am not sure if it was like that from the beginning... How does your trunks wear and tear?
This is unbelivable but I have the same issue: missing a piece of leather on the strap (exactly the same location) and very obvious scratch on the closing part hardware as well. I ordered it from Marni Mardrid and received it like that. have to return it and order another one..the bag is very beautiful tho.

Bumping this thread, as I’ve had my smooth black Trunk for years and it is one of my favorites. Yes, it has scratches now, and I don’t think the quality is the same as Celine etc., but it’s just so cool and chic—and the scratches don’t look bad at all. This isn’t a bag like the Lady Dior that screams “baby me.” It is tough and urban, and a few battle scars suit it in my opinion. This also makes it more carefree to carry. I don’t obsess over every little scratch, as I do with some of my other bags.

Happy to share that Italist has quite a few on sale now. I just bought the navy saffiano, and am very excited for its arrival. The bag will do heavy duty in the spring and summer months, and on vacations. One minor quibble is that the medium is shorter than the bag I bought years ago (which I think was a medium), by a couple of inches. I’d prefer the larger size and think that Marni makes a “large” Trunk these days, but it seems hard to find.

So happy to find this thread, it's so difficult to find reviews on this bag!

This is my Marni story:

Early last year I got my first Marni Trunk, a yellow one with saffiano leather. OMG, the quality on this saffiano leather is unbelievable. Whenever I wear my black or blue jeans and the bag gets color transfer, I just wipe it with a cloth and some water, and it's gone! I also got this on sale, 50% off. About the wear and tear; the only place I can see wear is on the brass by the closing. It's not scratches, but some marks from the lock being closed, if you know what I mean? But my LV Pochette Metis has WAY more marks, and I'm ok with that now, I think it just shows how much I love a bag and how much I use it.

Yesterday I got my second Marni Trunk, a brown saffiano leather, and I think I'm in love now. I got this one 45% off, and know that's a weird percentage, but it's because it was actually on 40% off, but I talked the sales person into giving me 5% more ;) I will treasure this bag, the brown color makes it a all year around bag. I do use my yellow bag in the winter some times, but it's more a summer bag, for me at least. Here's a picture of the beauty:

Sad to see the wear and tear people on this thread have been experiencing, especially where the leather falls apart. I would definitely take it back to the store.

Hi!
I have been eyeing on marni trunk bags lately...does anyone own black or burgundy color?? Do colors vary by the leather type (saffiano vs. Calf)? How durable is the bag in each leather?

Thank you in advance!

Wow!
I almost forgot about this thread I opened

I still love my Marni trunk!!

Now that some of you have mentioned quality issues, here’s my two cents:
The leather is still fine. I haven’t used the bag heavily though. But trust me.... I’m a very carefree person and I use my expensive bags the same as a tote from target.. sooo... I guess they leather is holding up fine.
As mine is smooth (I’m guessing here) calf skin and not Saffiano, I have no issues regarding the “coating”.
Saffiano leather is structured and then coated, hence splitting of the coating is most likely to happen. That’s why I never buy Saffiano ever again. Had a few Prada pieces back in the days, but I’ve learned my lesson. Saffiano is always subpar quality.

The lock: yes, scratched like crazy due to opening and closing. But I don’t mind.
As someone mentioned: it’s in the nature of brass closures and the famous LV Pochette Metis has the same issue.

I’ve noticed a stitching error on my bag.
One of the threads was loose, so I burned it with a lighter to melt it close.
Unfortunately that little bump scratches on my delicate clothes on the shoulder
Tried to fix it by cutting it a bit smaller.
But other than that, the bag is still holding up fine.

The Pocket organisation of the Marni trunk is still unmatched!!!!

And I love how this bag is so timeless and understated.
I’ve only seen it in real life on someone else TWICE in all these years.
But when I see it, I give the owner a look of approval, if you know what I mean, haha..
