I bought the multi-color pastel version in the camera bag style. It has quality issues of tarnishing on the GGs brand new from the distribution center. It is very obvious so I am returning mine. No reason hardware should already be tarnishing so questionable about Gucci quality control that is going on right now.

I totally understand and feel that it’s unacceptable to receive it tarnished. On the other hand mine was tarnished and when I went to the boutique to exchange they were all like that. FWIW, I took on the mission of cleaning it myself and now it looks great.

Has anyone had an issue with colour transfer? I wear a lot of dark denim, and I was super careful and made sure to only wear old, thoroughly washed jeans and used leather protectant cream on the bag but to no avail. Still had terrible transfer on my pastel pink camera bag  I know I should’ve known better but I thought as they were old jeans and the bag is not SUPER pale that I’d be safe.

Nothing would take it out - I tried leather cleaner and the magic eraser. If anything they both actually just made my bag look more worn! We don’t have Apple Guard in the UK which I know is what is usually recommended to treat leather bags. Does anyone have any other recommendations for how I can stop this getting worse? Unfortunately it’s making me rarely use this bag as I don’t want to ruin it! I know the damage is already done so I may as well just continue wearing it with denim but I just hate to see it get so dirty.

It's a hard call with the tarnish. I've been watching YouTube and some people seem to think Gucci did this on purpose to make the bag look "edgier" or something. I understand the concept but the way it looked when I opened my rainbow camera did not give me edgy, or vintage, or rustic vibes but defective bag vibes. If they did this on purpose the execution is horrible, it looks like dirt on the silver. I don't know whether to return or not. I've already cleaned it off some and now I'm worried they'll say I messed with it. Plus I think I may have made one of the yellow stitches slightly darker from the q-tip I was using to clean off the "tarnish." This is so weird and annoying. I notice it says nothing about tarnished looking on the website, but the photos on the Gucci website even show some tarnish so maybe this was on purpose? It's not a good look -- especially against delicate pastels.

It's definitely on purpose. My friend said her SA told her it was on purpose for the antique look that they constantly do.

They also say it on their website:
Note the "Antique palladium-toned hardware", but weird only some pastel product pages mention the 'antique' part. The camera bag sure does not mention it.

I did notice my blue camera bag has it on the inner part of the Gs too, it doesn’t bother me too much bc you can’t really see it but this is so odd to me if it’s intentional! I can’t believe the website shows it! Why not just do the G’s completely “antique” if that’s what they were going for?

I went to Gucci today and asked my SA about whether or not the GGs on the pastel collection were supposed to look "aged" or not (I did not purchase my camera bag through her/she does not know I got it). She said no. She said it was not aged, just pure, shiny silver. I told her I'd looked this up online, and that many of us were confused and even cleaning our own bags with different solutions to remove what we believed was tarnish on our bags. I pointed out the darker areas on the GGs on the bags on display at the store, but to be honest, the bags at the store had minimal amounts of the black stuff that was covering mine, and only on the very insides where it was not too perceptible, so they weren't good examples to point it out on. She said yes, she saw what I was pointing at, but it was so minimal she just kind of shrugged, still convinced these GGSs were not supposed to look aged (because on these bags they really didn't). Also, on the SLGs for this collection, the GGs are perfectly shiny, so of course it's not obvious that Gucci did this "tarnishing" thing on purpose. The whole thing is just really weird. I've never come across a situation like this where people keep getting different answers and opinions everywhere. Usually when an item has defects, it's understood and a known fact (like with LV glazing issues). This is just weird and confusing.

Weird that it's like this. I looked up the pastel collection on other retailers and the bags have tarnishes too, but they vary in severity, like some have the darkening just in the inside edges, but some bags had the darkening on the outside too. This cardholder net-a-porter has tarnishing too in the close-up photo so I think some SLGs may have tarnishing.

I feel like if it was a purposeful design choice, it would be seen on every single item and in a uniform application. I definitely think Gucci is just trying to pull one over on us so they don’t have a ton of returns due to tarnish
