How do you even get into an ivy league school?? I was always under the impression that you needed connections, because everyone who applies there has a near perfect GPA and resume, etc and they only accept a small %. I always thought that if you're a nobody from oklahoma with a 100% average there's no way in hell you're getting into harvard.

One way: legacy. Those kids can be dumb as a box of rocks and still get into ivy league schools.

The Gates' like to pretend they're down to earth but it seems nobody knows the Gates' live in one of the most expensive homes in the world. Their home is valued at nearly $200,000,000! That's beyond excess.

The Gates' have two kids, and he was at one point, the richest man in the world. I imagine a lot of that $200M is/was due to security measures. I don't personally know the man, but if I had that much wealth and children to look after, I'd be paranoid enough to spend an extra $100M to keep them safe.

And given how much they've personally donated to HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns, awareness, and research, I don't think it's right to fault them.

I think the ring is nice for the lifestyle they live. She doesn't look like she even wears jewelry so she probably prefers something more understated.

I wonder what their kids will look like:smile1:

My cousin got into both Harvard and Yale with no connections and not much extracurriculars. Same with a church friend but Cornell. Check out College Confidential! Current students share their stats.

There are people that work their a$$ off to get into an Ivy league school. One of the girls I went to high school with had a perfect GPA, really book smart (especially in science), took tons of AP classes, represented our district at council meetings, involved in tons of extracurricular activities, probably got amazing letters of recommendation, etc and got into Harvard. She was definitely one of those "overachiever" types but still very sweet and likable. As far as I know, she was just a super hard working girl from the suburbs...no special connections or anything.

Anyways, I like the ring. Not my ideal wedding ring but it fits her. I've always had a thing for rubies because it's my birthstone :smile1:

I saw a documentary on their house once... It's completely computer driven, which is likely a main reason for the cost.
