sf would be my second city i'd choose to live in. i can't see myself leaving ny. thank goodness that my bf is from sf, so i get to visit often. but i agree, pm. the weather in sf is everything anyone could ever want. it's been cold lately, but usually it's blazer weather, which is perfection.

Hi ladies! Just dropped by to say HI. I noticed that you guys were talking about SF. Glad to hear it's getting a lot of love. When we first moved to the bay area in '07, I was homesick every single day. But now, I've learned to appreciate all the perks of living in the bay. I'm in Chicago for the break but I am looking forward to ditching the heavy winter coat!

Given a choice, I would live in NYC or SF. I love both places. Someday. They are both so ridiculously expensive, though. If I move to either of those places, I will probably cut my square footage to about a 1/3 of what I have now! I sometimes browse real estate ads for NYC and am shocked at the prices.

What did you decide, Xi? Has the stam arrived yet?

No final decision yet. The Stam is due to arrive sometime this week so we'll see if it takes my breath away...

I'm hoping it doesn't take my berath away so I can just get that flap already! Because if it does, then I'd really have to go on a strict ban and start saving for the flap. So no more bag purchases after the ostrich Stam.

The closest I come is watching "What You Get For The Money" and I'm always shocked. The town I live in has a relatively high standard of living for the Midwest as far as average house value, etc., but NOTHING like SF or NYC! I'm sure we'd be able to afford something the size of our current living room, lol.

I love to watch those shows that compare housing prices. Los Angeles is pretty pricey, but SF and NYC blow it out of the water. I guess I would save money on gas, though. I always think of how little I would drive if I lived in either of those cities. I really would love to move to NYC, but I keep thinking I would probably be a wimp when it came to seriously cold weather.

ITA with the cold weather. Don't believe people when they tell you "you'll get used to it" because IMO, you totally won't. At least, not me. I feel the same way every Chicago winter. I actually feel like it's colder than the last!

you know, i always wished hgtv would do a special week of segments devoted to nyc. i always watch that show about how much the house is worth or where they show the potential buyers three homes within their price range. people would crap themselves when they see how little money will buy you in manhattan. seriously. when i see comparable houses in other cities for what i purchased my apartment for, it still makes me feel a bit queasy. i think one pays for the privilege of living in manhattan and not necessarily for the space, crazy as that sounds.

I love the idea of living somewhere like NYC where you can live in a neighborhood and walk to your local deli/grocery store/etc. and order takeout from anywhere and find incredible shopping/museums/shows on any given day. That said, I'm not a city gal. For some reason SF doesn't feel like a big city to me. I feel very at ease there. Ideally, I'd live somewhere with the ocean and the mountains within driving distance, but we're here for the long haul b/c of DH's work and our families. We'll just have to take regular vacations!!

I actually have a friend (here in my town) whose house was featured on WYGFTM! But while $700,000 gets you a lot here, in NYC it probably gets you a one bedroom apartment with a shared bath:p
