Used to get mani/pedi every two weeks so my nails were always polished. NOW since we have moved I havn't found a place I really love, so I just keep my hands moisturized and my nails trimmed down and filed. I polish them once in a while, but with two kids it's not really easy to find the time! I still wear my rings though! I feel as long as nails are clean and neat, they will not take away from fabulous rings!

I have always kept my nails neat, since I stopped biting them when I was about 12. I've worn them naked, but filed and buffed, polished, and even worn acrylics. I think that every person should take care of their hands. That doesn't mean manicures - it means cuticles trimmed, nails filed, and either bare or with polish that is intact. I think sloppy nails (ragged edges, chipped polish, etc) can make a ring look really cheap. But short, naked nails are perfectly fine with any ring/watch/bracelet! An emery board and a little hand lotion can go a looooong way.

I love seeing others with beautiful nails, but I would never condemn anyone with raggedy nails-- because that's how mine look! Two small children + dry, cold climate + no time for manicures = terrible looking nails.
::blush::

Ah, well. I would just ruin fancy nails anyway. I am too *sportif* for long nails, and they bother me anyway, after years of rock climbing and other outdoor sports. I like them as short as they'll go, so I am not much fun for manicurists!

I vary between pink/white acrylics and natural nails - I'm doing natural nails right now and probably will not go back to acrylics. I always keep my nails looking neat and nice. I keep my nails short, neatly filed, and at least a clear polish on. I do polish them with color if we're going out or something. Short nails are *very* chic, especially when they're polished a great color like a dark taupe gray or something. Even if your nails are bare, they can look nice. The key factors, IMHO, are having all nails one length (nothing looks worse than a hand with varying length nails), no jagged/dry cuticles, no chipped/flaking old polish. Cuticle oil and lotion are your best friend!

Even if you're outdoorsy (which I am) and don't have time for manicures, keep the nails filed short and keep lotion on your hands.

I always feel better with nailpolish but I don't always have the time. Also I would rather have no nail polish than it chipped at all so that means I go mostly with no nailpolish but will stay up late maybe once every few weeks to do my nails since I have a toddler and a preschooler it is hard to have wet nails. I use the nail spray and cold water and that helps to dry them and I always use OPI which for me dries the fastest and looks the best.

I do this. . . but in my dry, cold, mountain climate lotion isn't always enough when you are washing your hands after diaper duty eight gazillion times a day. My hands look (maginally) better in the summer. . . but in the winter. . . :wtf:

I could REALLY use a paraffin treatment. . . when DH gets back from his next trip, I think I am going to hit him up for kid-watching while I get a manicure! (No polish for me, though, it's always a man-manicure, unless I have a VERY special occasion the next day.)

I hate nail polish, I wear it on my toes but haven't on my fingers for over 10 years probably. I also keep my nails short b/c they tend to break off/crack/snag if they are even a little long. I still wear my rings, I don't think a "manicure" is necessary at all as long as your nails look decent. I think everyone should do what makes them feel comfortable.

My nails grow really well but I prefer to keep them short. I have a 4yr old son and the last thing I want to do is catch him with a nail. I always have polish on, I love OPI. Its the best polish I have tried.

I have incredibly dry hands so I am forever moisurising them. Its a losing battle as I have OCD and wash my hands a LOT!

I will wear my rings whether I have polish on or not, but I prefer my nails to be nicely shaped and painted.
