Did the SA say that they had the items that you wanted in the store now, or just that they were coming in soon? I think sometimes the items the store orders don't come in when they are expected, or other SAs speak for them first, and then the SA tries to give you something else in case you might be satisfied with another item. I agree you should just buy what you want.

I have it on hold

So the color and hardware are on target. I haven't held the 28 or 32 or 35 so I can't have the Sz. I know it's a personal thing so I will know once I get to hold it.

My SA must have offered me 5-6 bags last year and I said no to all of them. It was either the wrong color or size. All ranging from a constance, birkin, and kelly. I only wanted my top 3 choices and it was hard turning them down. However, if I'm spending 5 figures on an handbag then I want exactly my specs and I have to love it. My SA understood and it was this year that he got me my birkin. Your SA should understand this and I wouldn't worry about turning it down.

Thanks! I'll know when I see it.

Yes, definitely communicate clearly your preference. In my home store, I have been told by my SA's colleague that if a bag is turned down then the SA may lose that bag to his/her colleagues if it is not taken by the client that it has been offered to. So in the case that your SA may have fought for a bag for you then .... anyways that is how it is working in my store in Canada

I think here they have a time frame to sell it. Some of the bags I went in just to see sizing and color but a couple of them I just turned down. He mentioned to me that he goes down a list of his clients that's why I think they have a set time frame to sell

I think you are correct. I was offered a Kelly last year and when I went in to see it my SA had left a little post it note on it and before she realized it and removed it, I noticed it was a list of four names with mine at the top. I assume they tag them and go down the list if it is rejected by the first person.

As for a time frame, this may be right, but I have just been offered a B but I can't get there until late next week but they will still hold it for me. Then again, I live in a neighboring country to my "home store" so I think they give me a bit of leeway so I can get a flight and hotel etc. My SA has commented to me in the past that she can't hold it "too long" (don't know how long that is) without clearing it with her SM.

Yes, you are indeed correct on this. My SA said for example in l

Yes, you are indeed correct on this. My SA said for example in Las Vegas this is how it works. I think only in the case of extremely highly demanded item, the SA might lose the bag to another SA.

Hi all... can i ask a quick question. Was in H today buying some home goods and the SA said 'xxx are you looking for a birkin?' I said yes and specified colour etc but also said i want a kelly. She then said when do you want one, i said ASAP and she said ok and continued to wrap my purchases. Is this a good sign??

Hate to be the grinch that stole Christmas but buying at H is somewhat of a game and is all about the hunt or the chase of a somewhat unattainable item. So if you aren't in the mood to play the game then don't, you can play the lottery and go to Paris instead or even better work with a reputable reseller and pay a little more for a B/K.

Truly there is no short way around building a relationship with an SA, this is a process that takes time and some funds buying items in other categories rather than bags.

Have heard that Vegas is pretty easy when it comes to H newbies buying a B/K. Maybe go there for a weekend and take a chance? It is there or Paris imo.

Hope that you have luck - do not discount the reseller option if funds are of no consequence. Just make sure that they are reputable, TPF has a list of them.

FWIW, I was lingering outside the Hermes store at the Bellagio yesterday & shamelessly gawking at the bags on display. I didn't go in bc I had my rambunctious toddler with me and it seemed like an expensive accident waiting to happen. But there was an exotic Birkin (I think) on display -- and one of the associates was showing it to some women who certainly seemed to be tourists who had just wandered into the store. At least, that's my guess from the body language. So maybe the rumors about Vegas stores being easier locations to get the holy grail bags from is true. :)

My daughter was playing with my phone while I was waiting and I discovered later that she'd snapped a bunch of candids of the inside of the store. I had to zoom in a ton so the quality is terrible but here's the bag in question.

That's good advice. My store is small so I'm worried if I'm too narrow in my choices I'll get offered nothing, but I don't regret anything I've turned down. You're right; we have to be patient if we are spending this much. It better be exactly right! ;-)
