I had a special occasion and also wanted to buy myself something memorable from H. I knew there was no way my SA would bring me a BKC just because I had a "special day". I just treated it as a normal appointment and still have sweet memories every time I wear that piece of FJ I bought to mark an important day in my life.
We tested "Looking for something special" scenario with my partner at FSH and it did give me a walk-in leather appointment, but no QB offer, only Verrou/Picoton/Evelyn were available for me. In sum, to avoid that bittersweet feeling, I would agree with the above posters that it is better to treat your birthday appointment as a regular one and have no expectations that your SA would offer you a QB. This makes shopping more enjoyable
This birthday card might work if it’s your regular SA. In my case and for some of my gfs as well, our SAs offer birthday QBs.

But if it’s a ad-hoc drop in at a boutique and/or you don’t have a regular SA that you’ve worked with for years, it would be unrealistic to expect too much.

This is likely a very dumb question so please forgive me. But for years, the only way to get H in my state was through Neiman Marcus, which was limited but there were bag offers very rarely in addition to accessories etc. Otherwise I shopped at H when out of state. When the H boutique opened here, that ended. However (and here is the dumb question), I assume H has no access to our shopping history through NM? I only ask because my SA was trying to find any other profiles I may have had with H through the years (apparently I had 2).

They won’t have access to your NM profile and linking them together would be of no use to you anyway so I wouldn’t bother pursuing it.

Dumb question - if your SA is “giving” you a bag on your birthday are they keeping it a secret for months? Or they just happen to get stock right before said birthday and think of you?

In my case, I have never intended to play my birthday card, but my SA kept asking me about my birthday like 3-4 months prior to my birthday. She asked me quite regularly when we talked about the bags in general, and I realized that she was planning on offering me something special for my birthday. Ironically, I've never got the bag when I had an appointment on my birthday, and I was so upset. (I left the store with empty hands literally.) But, my SA reached out to me soon after and asked to come to the store, and I got the bag. Then a week later, she also offered me an SO offer. (I sensed/felt that the SO offer was a special treatment because I did not get anything on my birthday and my SA knew (or felt bad) that I was so upset... - This is just my guess.)

Yes I agree. Also I suppose it depends on the country/region you are located. I wonder if countries with a wish list system may have higher probability of a birthday QB offer vs competitive locations that require high pre-spend.

Anyways, happy upcoming b-day and let your QB offer materialize soon :)

just out of curiosity, does SA know the birthday of each of his/her client?

I am assuming they have a bit of a notice and grab something from a delivery or from the back. I have come to believe through various situations that every store has some level of stock at all times.

The SM usually knows what will be in the delivery about a week in advance. Whether or not this info is shared with the SAs is a case by case variable.
I feel like SAs know what’s coming in months in advance but don’t know who will be allocated the items. When I declined a C18 due to it being a bright colour (rose Texas), my SA looked on her phone and made suggestions on colours that she could put me down for.

It’s not a dumb question at all but even I can’t answer it. I’ve never asked my SA how she preps for my birthday offers.

It’s all part of the wider wishlist bag discussion. And my SA will never forget my birthday bcoz the last 3 digits of my mobile number is my birthday in DD/M format LOL.

I was not specific enough. I asked for a colour shade (for example, blue) and it’s in that family.
I think if you had just wished for something in the bleu family and it’s totally not what you want, you can let your SA know that it’s not the shade of blue you were envisioning and politely decline but be more specific about the type of blue you do want. There’s such a wide range of blues that I think a reasonable SA would understand.

If however you asked for a dark blue and your SA produced bleu navy vs bleu nuit, then it might be a bit impolite to decline…

but ultimately it depends on your comfortable level with your SA and how much you like/dislike the color. if you know it’s not for you, don’t try to talk yourself into it
