Hi ladies,

I’d like to add a necklace that I can wear often and would love your help on this decision. The magic chalcedony pendant looks delicate and feminine but a little thin by itself to complete a look. I love the color of chalcedony. It’s great as an everyday piece, also looks great with the 3 motif WG earrings which I plan to get later on. But the 6 motif necklace is such a look, it’s edgy because of the grey MOP on WG and the asymmetrical design. It has enough presence that I don’t need to match it with anything else. But I’m concerned if the style is too unconventional for me in the long run. I thought my mind was set on the magic pendant but after trying on the 6 motif several times, it’s growing on me! Any suggestions for clearing the thought process are much appreciated!

Hi, and Happy New Year! I vote for the 20 motif! I love long necklaces as it gives a long, lean, swinging look (it's the 20s, let it swing!). The 20 motif also has presence which is what I think you find lacking in the magic long pendant... you want more pop. I love the 6 motif and 10 motif, but for me, I found those lengths really hard to wear because I wear round/scoop neck tops and somehow, the round/scoop neck competes with the necklaces on me. The 6 motif is really unique, I love it, but I think it requires an open neckline such as a v-neck or open button down blouse which for me, I don't wear often.

I think you have to ask yourself what you wear often, and how often you can wear this necklace. I wear 20 my motif all the time. For me, a 20 motif with matching Vintage earrings is the the perfect everyday look... looks great with even a simple tee and skinny jeans.

Hope that helps.

Thanks ladies, 10 motif gets lost on me though:blush:

I guess it depends on what your wardrobe looks like. If you wear a lot of round necklines (the ones that hug closer to your neck), definitely go with the magic pendant first. I think round necklines that extend away from the neck (like boatneck cuts) can go well with the 6M. Collar shirts/blouses also wear beautifully with the 6-motifs. Turtlenecks (because we’re in the middle of winter!) goes well with both! I think eventually, you’ll probably end up getting both as they are very differently pieces, meant to be worn with different looks and occasions. But I would definitely go with the one that matches the majority of your wardrobe first, then get the other one as a special occasion piece!

@880 posted fabulous modshots with her 6 motif in my thread, you should definitely check those. I understand your concern with 10 and 20. Personally I also love the asymmetrical look of 6 motif with bigger motifs. I also really love magic pendant IMO if you like these styles your to go long necklace should be 16 motif magic necklace instead of 10 or 20  I am no help with your dilemma because I love both options, I would make my choice depending on earrings and what you love most on you. For me personally I am not a big earring girl because I think no matter how big they are they will always look lost because I wear my hair down most of the time. I also find putting earrings on and off much more effort than necklace and I often lose my earrings :( so for me at the end I always choose studs I can wear 24/7. I cannot really comment on your plan with earrings but magic looks great even with smaller earrings :)

@nightbefore, thanks for your compliments! @Anabunny, I love the six motif and wear it casually with v neck sweaters and jeans or exercise leggings. But I’m medium build. When another Tpfer who is much more petite wore it, it looked much more dressy on her. @willeyi has a lot of great advice re 20 vintage motif and the magic sizes, post #28, On @nightbefore ’s thread
edit: and her above post in this thread :D

Here is another thread, specific to 6 motif, that might help too (TPFer @Lisa-SH has gorgeous pictures of both six and magic— see her post #9):

thanks 880! I was enabled by those amazing photos:blush: Do you find the 6 motif easy to be dressed up too? Ie. would you choose it for black-ties? The WG seems much more casual than YG??

Thanks @Anabunny, on me, the 6 motif looks pretty casual. I do think my build reinforces the casual look, in that the magic size doesnt look all that big. I really felt like the 6 motif broke up the squareness of my upper body and shoulder, and that the asymmetry was much more flattering than the 10 or 20. For that reason I wear v necklines, U necklines, button downs. (I didn’t try 10 or 20 bc I felt that vintage size was too small on me).

However, on TPFer @pursebelle, who seems to have a slimmer frame, the same six motif necklace looks much dressier and I can see definitely see her wearing it black tie. See her post #13. I posted right below hers if you want a comparison and two differing opinions.

re WG versus YG
My jeweler and DH told me this year that they thought yg and RG were much more flattering, youthful and casual on me, and that wg on me was more dressy. (and they said this after I had been wearing WG for years!!!! And so i think it depends on your skin tone. . .I’m Asian, olive skin tone and as per them, RG seems to blend; YG gives a complementary pop; ans WG is higher contrast and bling. someone with paler skin may find the reverse is true?

@willeyi ‘s comments on how to make it work with the types of necklines and things you wear also helped me figure things out.

the YG version is so glamorous, I like it on your colouring! Here is the one I got, does WG look right on me? The silver tone metal does make it more ‘sober’...

It looks beautiful on you. I like wg but I can't wear it anywhere near my face, it doesn't really flatter my coloring - which makes some jewelry decisions easier. I love the GMOP with the chalcedony though....
