It does pick up more yellow outside, but between 3 boys and a DH I am not getting much help when I ask them if it really looks yellow. My 7 year old says it looks more yellow outside. I do love it but online they look more sunny.

I think it's really pretty dialv! but if you want the colour to be more intense, I wouldn't settle. my personal preference is for fancy yellow- anything above looks too orange on my skintone, but you look to be more tanned then I will or can ever be :D

how do you feel about the intensity of colour?

Well, I sent my SA an email. He isn't that great at getting back to me but my usual awesome SA said she doesn't look after yellow diamonds. As for stats, all I have is the Tiffany receipt, it says .39 FY. Nothing really about the stone. I let him know if I have to pay a little more for the color I want thats fine but not to much higher.

Hey!

Oh my, no 4 boys wouldn't be much help would they? That's what we're here for!

The size is lovely! Just like I thought... and colour is one of those things that is really in the eye of the beholder when it comes to saturation on yellow diamonds! But honestly? I would wait to have one brought in if I had to and go for a more saturated colour, either a FI or FV (don't worry it WON'T look "orangey" when it comes from Tiffany's!). To me it looks like it's almost washing out. Even within each colour category there is some variance... you might have a really light FY there. And it sounds like you're wishing it had come out a bit more sunny... I think you should be 100% happy with your purchase and return it until they find one you LOVE.

I'm pretty sure (after extensive research!) that the ones on the website are fancy vivid colour (by the way they don't post the ACTUAL picture of the one you're buying under "sola" - I've noticed that! They have a stock picture which doesn't reflect the colour/size very well)... which is why they look more "sunny" than yours ... for reference, mine is fancy vivid (fancy yellow is the lightest, fancy intense the middle, fancy vivid the most saturated) and as yellow and sunny as it is I would have mistaken it for FI - could barely tell the two apart side by side. I was looking for FI but in comparing 4-5 pear pendants, ended up loving the whole look (shape of the pear/colour/size/value) of the FV the most out of four she brought in so that's how I ended up with mine! But I think FI is just fine and really nicely saturated.

The thing is - if you found another .39-ish size and upgraded to FI you really wouldn't end up paying THAT much more - MAYBE $400? That's just a guess based on the ones I was comparing but it won't be that much more to get one you'll be REALLY happy with!

So glad you got your necklace. I think it's a perfect size for a pendant. You're right about the sunlight...sunlight brings out the best in yellow diamonds. But if you are not completely in love with it then I agree with everybody else...exchange it for one that takes your breath away. Can you easily visit a store and compare yours with others to help you decide if it's the one for you?

I'll totally go with surfergirljen! She is such a YD researcher!:p The intensity of yellow is not really a grade but a preference. But, the prices go up in accordance with intensity. That's the problem!!! Before you decide, you'd better see another stones. You'll know which one you like best. If you like more saturated yellow, why not go with smaller stones. Around 0.3 stones would look great in this setting IMO.:D

I have been in a few boutiques recently (this Saturday) and this is the least saturated Tiffany yellow diamond I've ever seen. If your photos are a good representation and not just the camera washing the color out, I would take it back. The color is disappointing, to be honest.

Let me add that a Tiffany diamond certificate (the kind that used to come in leather cases) should accompany this diamond because it is over 1/4 carat. I would ask for one. Maybe their policies have changed but either way you need to ask.

Tiffany & Co. has been cutting corners recently - cheap machine enamel (on silver charms, not Schlumberger pieces), cheaper packaging materials, and lower quality melee diamonds and gemstones all around. Sadly their standards are relaxing, and most of this is happening on the lower end, under the ten grand mark.

Thank you so much for the advice girls, I am nowhere near a Tiffany boutique. My sa said this one was the only one he had. I was hoping you would chime in surfergirljen, I followed your threads on your pendant. I didn't receive a certificate which I thought I would get but have sent an email to Tiffany's. I will request a vivid stone as I am willing to go up in price a bit to get the color.
