Amazing patina, congrats! Nice find

Thanks! Much appreciated :D

Like others have said on TPF, I appreciate getting items with vachetta leather used, so that the patina already has nice development. New Vachette is, as someone here said, "a bit scary!"

That said, I do have one new item which I am trying to take care of so that it'll patina well. Can't wait!

Hi everyone! This is my first post after peeking around for a while. I braved the masses on eBay myself recently and made my first LV purchase off of eBay. I got this oldy but goody, which I found irritasistable! Here's my 1982 Speedy 25.

Congrats!!

Forgive me if you already know this -- but get some Brasso and polish up those rivets and your zipper and you will really make your Speedy look shiny and awesome. I love the vintage look of patina on these older bags, especially against the shiny brass hardware.

Congrats again -- enjoy your bag! :)

Oh, that's good to know! To be honest, I really hope I can one day get a nicely patina'd Speedy 25 (or perhaps Speedy B 25) on eBay, and I didn't know what could be done to polish the hardware! Thanks for sharing that tip!

I'll have to get back to looking :graucho: there are so many, and it's hard to find one with just the right "good condition" + nice patina. (some older ones have scratches on the canvas, for example, that I think I couldn't handle…)

Thank you! I've actually been to target and walmart on the search for brasso and could not find it! Going to have to hit homedepot next. I can't wait to shine her up some, but not too much. I'm enjoying the age of this bag and kind of want to "keep it real". At fist I wanted to have the zipper pull tab replaced (it's been torn off) but I think a new one might throw off the balance of the bag. Overall I was very nervous about buying a LV off of eBay with my untrained eye, but it worked out well. :)

Mine has a large gash? burn mark? on the canvas on the bottom of the bag. I was bothered by it at first but hey, it's 32 years old! Lol! It just adds to the story of the bag. Although some of the older bags look like they were dragged behind cars! And the one thing I COULDN'T handle was a dirty interrior. Thankfully mine was pretty clean. I think some ppl must have carried art supplies in their bags with all the ink marks you see. (Or potting soil, with all the dirt!) I've never carried a pen in any of my bags.

That's a good way to look at things! I think I would have to agree with you - a clean interior trumps a clean/perfect exterior. And for a 32 year old bag, it looks good (to me~). I appreciate a lot of sellers who'll state what sort of smell a bag has, too…because even if it looks "clean," having a smell could be an issue! (I mean, you can't very well toss it into the washing machine on "delicate cycle" can you?)

You found an awesome bag and I really hope you enjoy it! :D

This is a great classic bag..I have also purchased a few pre-loved items from Ebay, I have been fooled twice but managed to get my money back. I trust the Purse Forum to help me make the right choices when buying pre-loved from Ebay or from anywhere for that matter...Enjoy your bag.
