LV and Skin Tone

Interesting question that brings back memories of my childhood. I remember my mother had a book called, Color Me Beautiful written in the early 1970s, and I would pour over the color swatches trying to figure out if I was a Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter. Back then I had light golden blonde hair and dark, almost black eyes. I have pale skin and never tan.

But back to your question about handbag colors, I think since handbags are not near your face, I don't think it is as important that they represent your season. But I too am not very good at the color thing, so others may feel differently.

OMG. YES. My mom also had Color Me Beautiful! Because of that book I have NEVER bought a single orange blouse! (The book told me it's the worst color for my skin tone).

But yes, back to the OP's question. I also don't think of my skin tone matching my bags. Maybe I should? I don't know. But yeah, I don't think of it at all.

I think about this issue every time I look for a new handbag. I look best with the "cool" tones. I am always hoping to find a LV handbag with silver hardware. I usually end up buying the handbags I love, but they are usually with gold hardware. I cannot wear the color brown or tan. The warm colors make me look like I am ill. I wear my LV monogram and Damier handbags with black tops and jeans and they look O.K. I have to really stop buying handbags with gold hardware and wish LV used more silver hardware in their collections. I do have 4 black Epi handbags with silver. The next handbag I buy MUST have silver hardware.

As others have said, if the color is not close to your face, like a blouse, dress or sweater, don't think it matters so long as the bag looks good with your outfits. I look best in bright or winterty colors and before LV I never wore items with a brown background. I'm actually getting tired of brown backgrounds and glad LV is coming out with colorful prints and more bright, solid colors.

Something else to consider is that not everyone falls into just the warm or cool category. Some of us are neutral and can wear silver or yellow metals.

I also have olive skin and a straight on winter palette doesn't work with my coloring. Some color typing systems break it down into subtypes , so that a winter palette might have a cool winter, a classic winter and a deep winter. The first would share some similarities with a summer palette, the last would share some similarities with an autumn palette.

I spent years wondering why a "winter" palette did not work well for me and once I figured out that I am either a deep winter or a deep autumn with neutral skin tones, coordinating my clothing became much easier.

I hadn't thought about handbags being warm or cool at all. Like someone else mentioned since they are not near your face, it doesn't matter.

I actually think about this a lot! It's the reason I have yet to buy anything in DE. It always looked off to me and not as flattering as Mono, MC, or DA. This is not to say that I will never buy anything in DE. But it just doesn't look as good as other prints do. Glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks like this sometimes! [emoji4]

Very interesting topic. To all of those who think it doesn't matter, yes it does. There was a thread not long ago where a member couldn't choose between two of the pink coloured Epi Alma's because of the way they looked against her skintone. Everybody said it doesn't matter, but then when she uploaded the pictures it was amazing to see the difference the colours maybe against her skin.

Awhile back I tried on the lockme ll In Tan colour and as soon as I put it on my shoulder and my SA told me to take it off it didn't suit my skintone as it made me look a bit sickly. :p:

I am not sure what skintone I am, but I can wear all shades as long as they are warm tones. So I wear greens blues Reds oranges yellow as long as they are all warm shades of the colour and not cool tones. And I wear yellow gold, Rosegold but not silver.

I've always considered this when looking for a handbag because although handbags are accessories and not worn close to your face, it can still make a difference depending on your style. Which is why a lot of people just choose black bags because regardless of what they wear, a black bag will be fine.

Also this is the reason I won't purchase a DE bag because although I like the print dark cool brown doesn't suit me, so I just admire the DE print from a far. However I do have a GM cosmetic bag in DE which I consider luggage since I don't carry it around. So in that case it's fine but I won't buy a DE bag to carry.

I don't have any problems with Mono because although it's also brown, the color is warmer than the DE print so it works as a nice neutral for me. I have a couple pieces in Mono and will certainly get more and I always prefer silver hardware over gold. My Aurora Artsy is the only bag I have in gold hardware and it's not that noticeable so it doesn't bother me.

Since I'm a neutral I don't like really cool tones as with the DE print however with DA I've always been drawn to it maybe because of the blue but the whitness of it always deterred me from pulling the trigger. However I recently bought the Calvi because although it is in DA, it has hot pink lining which is perfect as I love hot pink. So the contrast of the whiteness with the hot pink warms it up and makes it not appear so cool toned. However that's probably going to be my only DA print purchase.

I first look to see what colors are available in the leathers and I have a hot pink Alma & Aurore Artsy. So when there aren't any offerings for me in the leathers, I then see what catches my eye in Mono and that's pretty much what I'm going to continue doing.

Also for those that want to discuss this more, I started a thread about it and we're having a lot of fun discussing the different seasons/color pallets.

So here's an interesting question. LV canvas is brown light brown. Dark brown and less brown and then white and blue. I was doing some reading on skin tones and what kinds of colors looks go with what skin tone. Everything from clothing and accessories and make up and gold vs silver. I found ( it's taken me forever because I suck at this) lol.

I am a cool winter tone. I look really good in true white, silver type metals and purple eye make up. I look not as great in yellow, orange, gold and earth tones. I have olive skin with blue veins.

So that brings me to the point. With 2 out of 3 canvas prints that I think look like earth tones, would the azur print look the best on me?

Is there anyone here that feels the mono or DE print does not look good on their skin tone?

I am curious because I am in need of a new wardrobe and I am striving to get things that look good on me and not just shop all willy nilly. I like to look like I have put myself together with minimal trying. Lol. So I am careful to get things which look good on me. I only own one black bag. All my other bags are colored. I do have a DE but it's not an everyday bag. It's just soooo pretty. I am more looking forward to the day I can travel with her.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.
I think you read my mind with this post... Thank you for starting the thread. I think about this a lot. I love LV and am fairly new starting my collection but I never wear anything else brown/light tan as it does not suit my skin tone (from your description I think that we are very similair... Cool tones, brown hair with reddish highlights, pale skin with blue veins) I am a winter too. Most deep Jewel shades are fine. I use black and gray as base colours and white is best as a cool neutral. My favourite colours are purple, blues, greens, bright pinks and I have a love/hate relationship with red! I really enjoy wearing silver and my only gold is my wedding and engagement ring.

I had someone look at my colours and she was lovely. Her opinion was that it matters less with accessories (is don't stress out...!) but if you really want them to compliment your skin tone then follow similair advice ref clothes/make up colours.

As far as canvas prints I have a DE messenger bag and a Mono pochette. I love the LV brand but am very unsure if they suit me... If I am honest if it was not LV I would not be buying these colours! I also love azur print and think it looks good on me/ makes me happy but people have put me off wearing it year round and the colour transfer scares me. My next favourite would be epi... Really suits me but more expensive and a limited choice in bags. I think that I am going to make a purchase in epi and DA and no more mono/DE until I decide.... So interested to hear all of your opinions can't wait to follow this thread.
