Lupita said she went with her instinct when it came to choosing her red carpet look. 'So far I've only worn things that I feel speak to me. This is what I wanted and it's far more than I dreamed.'
The newcomer was among the favourites to walk away with a Golden Globe for her role in 12 Years A Slave after a critically acclaimed performance. 'I'm glad it's for a film I believe so much in and I believe is so powerful,' she said about the Steve McQueen flick.

If there is anyone who can walk the red carpet in a cape, it’s our style crush, Lupita Nyong’o! The 12 Years a Slave and Golden Globe-nominated actress arrived to the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards in a stunning red Ralph Lauren floor-length caped gown complete with Fred Leighton jewelry, which reminded us of Gwyneth Paltrow’s white Tom Ford gown moment from the 2012 Academy Awards. Nyong’o—who is also known for her bold beauty looks— finished off her look with the perfect red lip—Chanel’s Rouge Allure in a Pirate hue—and even lacquered up her digits with Deborah Lippmann‘s Naked and Diamonds and Pearls polish.
