AWESOME bag! I love the look of the skin. I hope you get good use of it, it's really classic bag that will never go out of style and whose luster is in the exquisite materials rather than some brand name. A treasure.

Well,
I can't really speak to it's worth; obviously many others here are much more savvy to that.
Here's the wikipedia page on pangolin:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangolin

But here's some info that will be pertinent if you intend to try to sell it.
Pangolin is listed as an Endangered Species under the USA Endangered Species Act. Here's an ebay guide concerning products like this, and I believe this purse would be subject to all the laws they discuss here, state and federal:
http://reviews.ebay.com/Leopard-ocelot-seal-otter-Endangered-Species-fur_W0QQugidZ10000000002806090

Pangolin is also listed an an Appendix II species under CITES, which means moving it across international borders is very diffucult.

basically, legally made (at the time) vintage products are not often distinguished from recently made ones (which are all illegal). So any attempt to sell it could be seen as illegal.

Hi everyone. I'm so happy to see all of the wonderful comments about the Lucille de Paris hand bags. Lucille and Charles Hahn were my great-grandparents on my dad's side (Robert Hahn-my dad). Please keep posting and take care!

Thank you theemptynest for starting this thread! Your anteater bag is gorgeous - just amazing! That's one skin I have never seen on a Lucille - very rare, to be sure. Definitely "worth something!" If you would like to pm me, I can put you in touch with several Lucille experts/sellers who can help you evaluate its worth.

Hi cecehahn and welcome! Your great grandparents are two of my heros!

I fell in love with Lucille de Paris bags about 5 years ago......I started collecting the bags after I discovered the extraordinary craftsmanshsip, unique designs and variety of exotic skins and colors.....I also appreciate the fact that they were Americans who competed successfully in the luxury goods category with the French 50 years ago. In fact, I consider my Lucilles to be of comparable quality to my Hermes bags - Lucilles were made right the first time and made to last.

My bags are 50+ years old and look Brand New. Just AMAZING!

I would love to learn more about your great grandparents cecehahn!

I love every one of my Lucilles, they are real treasures.

I tried to pm you but I think you need a few more posts....if you'd like, pls feel free to email me at [email protected] - I would love to talk more!

Hi everyone. Today I found a purse like this one but its ostrich and cream colored of the lighter variety. I paid 25 dollars for the bag and I'm positive that I got a good deal. Can anyone tell me what I may have here? Its a very very old Lucillede Paris and just beautiful. It smells yucky like old people inside haha...jk. But it definitely is older than me.

Hey I see you know about these bags...can you tell me more about mine? I picked a very old ostrich skin one today for 25 dollars at an antique store. Its beautiful and I'm surprised to find it may be worth something.

Hi everybody. Here's the info about the new books on collectible vintage exotic skin handbags, "Exotic Skin: Alligator and Crocodile Handbags" that features Lucille de Paris brand, among many other important brands and makers starting from the 19th century. There's the whole chapter on Lucille de Paris (12 pages), including the details and a lot of gorgeous handbags. The price guide is included. There's also an interesting material about this specific skin, Pangolian Anteater. The book is very extensive, with over 800 gorgeous illustrations of breath-taking handbags. The best source on vintage exotics you can find! You can get it on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc.

Thank you, faith_ann. It's one of my favorites too. It is a classic ostrich pocketbook by Lucille de Paris, one of the most popular makers of high-end exotics of the time, for about 20 years (late 1940s - late 1960s). In fact, at that time, they were as popular as Hermes or Chanel handbags, especially in New York. Do you like vintage exotics?
