If it's leather, is it still a kilt? Or do they have to be tartan to be called a kilt? Vin Diesel has Scottish ancestry (his real name is Mark Sinclair) but I couldn't find a pic of him wearing a tartan kilt. Yet.
Vin Diesel's kilt is an unconventional iteration from Howie Nicholsby (21st Century Kilts) who also designed it for Lenny Kravitz. Vin was gifted his clan's kilt by Rory McCann some time ago (https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/celebrity/vin-diesel-gets-touch-scottish-7622976) but don't think he's ever been photographed in it.

Yes, it's still called a kilt if it's leather. Kilts made in the traditional way may be too thick made of leather as the pleats sewn down flat at the back are very fine.

There are a few tartans that people can wear if you don't have Scott's ancestry including the Black Watch, as well as plain black.
