Looks like the same suit on both, so are both in the same regiment? Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but do British military units have "regulation civvies" as well as regulation uniforms? Inquiring non-military Yank minds want to know. :coolio:

Nice suits too.

No, it is not the case what suit you wear off duty. He looks better with the cap on and an uniform for sure. I am not a fan of his double breasted suit for sure. Like a cast off by Charles now a king

No it’s just a coincidence I think. The other man is, I think, the King’s bodyguard (see the wires around the back or his head), and the bodyguards are members of a special division of the Met Police (not in the army). I’ve seen photos of Major Johnny wearing suits at other times too. He’s wearing a black tie in the most recent shots of him in suits because of the mourning for the Queen (last photo below) but during the BoJo Umbrella Incident (which was the dedication of a memorial for police personnel who had lost their lives during the course of their duties), he was wearing the regimental tie (Royal Regiment of Scotland) (2nd photo), and a grey suit and regular tie in Manchester for the Commonwealth games walkabout (1st photo).

The British Army stopped wearing uniforms off-duty or not on the bases during the Troubles in Northern Ireland because the military was a big target for the IRA then and they never went back to wearing them out and about the way you might see military officers and men wearing their uniforms on the subway in the US, for example. I’ve been trying to discern a pattern of when Major Johnny is in civilian clothes and when he’s in uniform and it’s a bit confusing. The only thing I can say for sure is that for military occasions and church things he seems always to be in uniform.

I don’t think they have regulations on the business suits if you’re in the military. He does have a matching tartan tie & socks he sometimes wear with his suit. You can see it on the video where Boris Johnson’s umbrella flies up.

It is possible that they wear the same style and colour so that any undercover officers working alongside them can instantly recognise that they are protecting the King and not just someone who might harm him.

Thank you both for the explanation. Now that I see the earlier photos that were posted here I can see that he's wearing similar but not identical suits in all the photos. Classic greys and darker blues seem to be his preference, but that gent would look fine in anything. :girlsigh:

Good find

So still tartan involved lol. His suits are not well fit...like he loses weight up and down ..I don't mean a quality of fabric and a sewing just shape of the suit...he looks better in the army jacket though..read how often a king rings....nonstop job
