Yesterday the King opened a new bridge in our area. The new bridge will replace vehicular traffic on the old Gairnshiel bridge that dates back to the mid 1700s. The old bridge will now be used only for pedestrians and cyclists.

Pictured are the King with the plaque on the new bridge, the Lonach Pipe Band and Highlanders .... AND....

Oh yes! A certain rather distinctive Equerry was there in his RRS uniform.:heart:

The eagle-eyed among you might notice the plaque being unveiled has the worng date on it, indicating it was opened today rather than yesterday. A last minute diary change (not our boy's fault I should add!) meant it is a day out, but due to cost it won't be replaced.

WOW! Thank you kindly RomeGirl our very own personal reporter and photographer for this wonderful news!
Jonny in his brown jacket, which we haven't seen him wear for a while! :hbeat::heart:
Without you, we'd have completely missed this engagement because the Royal Press cannot be bothered to report it.
What a lovely occasion it looks. I hope you had a wonderful day.

Edited to add: What a beautiful part of the world you are fortunate enough to live in. :flowers:

I’m so pleased he was there, I’m sure it means a lot to him especially as His Majesty is also a Lonach Highlander.
I'm just so glad to see that he's been amongst friends and probably relatives too - I hope that he has enjoyed any free time he's had ! The Balaklava lads have been treated to all sorts, from golf to clay shooting and no doubt lots of food and baking treats from the local ladies : I hope that he's been included !
I see that the King has a reception on 12th October in Buckingham Palace so perhaps we'll see Jonny again, although he seems to have developed some expertise in lurking beside/behind photographers so that we only occasionally catch a glimpse of a fine shoulder or his perfect nose......!

I am celebrating Jonny's professional life.

I enjoy seeing the beautiful photographs of Jonny in his Royal Regiment of Scotland uniforms, in his British Army camo, in his bespoke suits at Ascot, in his plaid suit at the Highland Gatherings, and in his outings with the King. I am thinking fondly of our discussions and how much we have learned about his stunning uniforms and military training. I enjoyed our excitement as we watched him in the Highland Gatherings, the state visit to France and I love how we are sharing videos of Jonny at work with the RRS and the Royal Family.

Edit: Corrected a sentence

I managed to get a few screenshots of a clearer view. First the full Kilt to compare.

Olivia on the right. It definitely looks like a skirt in the RRS Tartan. With shoes, not Brogues with the full footwear and spats as the men. The top half of the Uniform is the same. Hope wearing the belt with RRS engraving on the gold clasp below.

This man on the right, I recognize, as Christopher Dean, from Balaklava Aden Exercises video with Jonny circa 2019. He's obviously been promoted and has more responsibilities. (I remember the name as I'm a lifelong TorvillandDean Fan).

The RRS Headwear for Women Soldiers is the same as Men.

I kept trying to look, but never got a good enough view to describe it accurately, though I think I saw Hope in a green RRS Tartan skirt beneath her brown jacket. There was a young man parading in the full RRS kilt on Passing Out Day but they didn't feature him. I have seen Lady Pipers in Marching Bands in kilts before.

Hopefully RomeGirl can help us out with definitive info. But definitely the RRS Dress Regs Manual needs updating ASAP! :smartass:

What do the lady soldiers in the RRS wear? Kilts as well? I ask because those are menswear, and in civilian circumstances women don’t ever wear them but is it different for soldiers?
Afternoon all. It has been a touch wet around here in the last few days (understatement). Flooding, evacuations, and the good lads of BKA Coy having to help with sandbagging and offer the barracks showers and WCs to evacuated folks!

Ladies in the RRS ? It is very hard to find a pic. But I had a feeling I had seen one so did a bit of digging.

This is from way back in 2013 when 5th Battalion The Royal regiment of Scotland (5 SCOTS), exercised its Freedom of Canterbury for the final time as a complete Battalion, and they departed their home of the 10 years previously at Howe Barracks.

The pic is in front of Canterbury Cathedral where a private farewell service was held. If you look closely you can see a female soldier wearing her Government 1A Tartan skirt - not kilt - and with no sporran. I believe she is holding a dirk in her hand - but happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an update to the dress regs. It is most unusual for British Army dress regs to be published publicly.

Full pic and close up screenshot.
