I know most people like him in his kilt and I do too but this is my favourite picture
Mine too! Hence my Avatar. I literally spent hours swooning over those Max Mumby pics from Ascot, and you can see where the sun has caught his face wearing his top hat that really suited him! I love how he's wearing a RRS watchstrap and the pink rose in his lapel.
He's not posing here, just engrossed, watching the races, thinking, unaware he's even being photographed, and they're the best kind.
It was such a heatwave down South that week, and they had the Garter to attend followed by Ascot all week, so plenty of dressing up in that weather! Bless.

2 sleeps until France and hopefully some wonderful new pics!

I have finished RomeGirl's homework assignment!

I watched the three YouTube "Sandhurst" videos all in one go. Finished them in the wee hours of this morning. I learned that I owe an apology to Jonny for referring to him as my "favorite soldier", rather, I should have said, "favorite Officer". After digging through several Army websites I learned that space is limited and only the "best-of-the-best" make it into Sandhurst and only those who are even better graduate.

The contrast between the Sandhurst officers, and the new soldiers learning their skills, was fascinating and I found the Officers to be more "humane" than I expected they would be toward their students. The videos showed teaching fighting skills, map orientation, shooting, a bit of "marching", ground fighting, parachute training, and other training Jonny went through. The physical training program was brutal. Crawling through mud that is up to your ears and no sleep for over two days was bad enough. Next was carrying a 35K rucksack up a very steep hill over a long distance but Jonny has the height and broad shoulders for it so he probably made it look easy. I explored the "RMA Sandhurst" tab on the British Army's website and there is a lot of information available.

I looked at the Getty videos for Sandhurst 2006 and tried to find Jonny. Failed. He is not in any of the "still" photos and there are over 400 videos to wade through. There was someone in the "Falling Out" parade dressed in their RRS No1 but everyone was moving fast and it was hard to know if it was Jonny. RomeGirl told us that Jonny spent 6 months in another Corps so he may have been in that uniform.

I apologize for such a long posting but the Sandhurst videos were eye-opening and I am beginning to understand something about why, as the King's Equerry, Jonny presents himself in the manner he does. Being an Army Officer, he is about military bearing, respect, correctness, duty, service, to care for others, and personal sacrifice.

He looks like he is a great leader. On some other pages, soldiers who were under him say he is kind, humble and a great leader.
Seeing how sweetly he worked with the Late Queen and does with Charles and Camilla, I believe that and would be disappointed if he was anything less.

Maybe he will give a small wave or nod to the cameras to say "Hi!" to his followers during this week's France visit! I love the way he looked directly at the camera during Charles' Balmoral Royal Honour Guard's greeting.

Great Post! :smartass: It's why Royals, eminent people and VIPs from abroad enter Sandhurst to receive that special, unique training of an Officer and complete their Military education.

Yeah, he is definitely aware he is being filmed but I get the impression he is still very wary of the camera.

By now, even if he might personally not care for it, he is probably used to walking around among all of the camera crews and being in front of the cameras. I saw a picture of him carrying some sort of messenger-type bag and walking through a team of photographers. Jonny and the photographers were having a good laugh about something and he had that gorgeous broad smile. Maybe he is trying to stay out of view so Charles and Camilla are in the limelight.

He will need a separate trunk to fit everything in for all the various occasions.
I hope we have a good photo of him in his Mess Dress because in all of the photos I have seen he is in the distance, blurry and we don't see the entire uniform or shoes. He will probably be in his No1 Ceremonial most of the time. If there is a military visit he will probably be in his brown No2 with the Sam Browne waist belt and chest cross belt but no sword. Even though he looks like he stepped off the front cover of GQ Magazine when he is in his Ascot suit and top hat, since this is a state royal visit he will probably not be wearing a suit  He may think of those beautiful suits, waistcoats and ties as a "uniform" for certain royal events. The photographers are going to have to work hard to top the pics of Jonny in his No2 uniform in Germany ... standing in the rain!
