The King has arrived, but no sign of Jonny.

Not long to go till France.

It appears that the King's regular team of personal protection officers are not there either. Perhaps the regular team and Jonny are on a day off or busy working on upcoming events. There are two soldiers standing next to the store but the tall one is turned so that one cannot see if he is wearing the gold shoulder Aiguillette of an Equerry so, just guessing, he might be one of the temporary Equerries. Perhaps we will see Jonny and the regular protection officers on Friday when the King visits Kinross.

Do you think you will be going to Tomintoul? Hopefully it will not rain! Would love to see any photos you might be able to snap!
Didn’t go as I heard a whisper Jonny would not be there.

Still trying to discover officially what is happening, and if so, IF I can say anything, but for now, I leave you with these pics, and allow you all to have a panic/meltdown and speculate.

I have an inkling, but can’t share it yet until something more official is forthcoming.

A new Equerry today from the Cold Stream Guards.

And these from the Braemar games….
Let the speculation begin….

Thank you for posting such lovely photos! Ahh, the gentleman who was with Jonny at the Braemar Gathering? I think we are finally settled into the idea that Jonny will not be with the King 100% of the time for the Royal visits and no longer lapse into a "Where is Jonny" faint unless he has been out of the public eye for a longer period of time :crybaby:And, he does have days off and he may be assigned to other duties, although in the early days we did have a bit of a meltdown when a different Equerry was on the scene and we were fearful that Jonny may have returned to his military duties with the Royal Regiment. Something more official is forthcoming? You are teasing us!:hbeat:

OK, before anyone has a heart attack. I ‘think’ this is the new temporary Equerry, probably replacing Capt Boggis-Rolfe of the Coldstream Guards.

1/ He looks too young to have achieved the rank necessary for the Monarch’s Equerry.
2/ I think it is Captain’s pips on his shoulder, but will need a clearer pic to be sure
3/ His medal only looks to be the Coronation Medal, no others.

I was trying to see his shoulder pips and, just speculation, he might possibly be either a Captain or a Lieutenant Colonel. The lack of medals leads me to believe he may be a Captain. I do not know what ranks are held by the temporary Equerries but feel they could not possibly be of the same rank as Jonny.

The Part-time Equerry is always a Captain, and always from the Coldstream Guards. There is only one, and this is who accompanies the King in the absence of THE Equerry. The others are all Extra Equerries (although their titles could change, all the other RH positions seem to be being updated!), and they usually represent the King, but not accompany him.

Looks like 3 x Captain’s pips, BUT, if he has a cypher on his shoulder as well, it would negate that idea and mean probably the Crown and pip of a Lt Col.
His Aiguillette definitely has the King’s cypher on it, so I would have thought he would also have it on his shoulder…
Perhaps I am just clinging to hope he is a Captain and the new Part-time Equerry, and not a Lt Col - which would indicate very clearly he has replaced Jonny.
Let me see what the local jungle drums come up with… if anything.

Fingers crossed that your jungle drums will tell us that he is not THE new Equerry and we still have Jonny! There have not been many photos of Jonny in which you can see his shoulder decorations clearly. During the Coronation, in an out of focus photo, it appeared that he had changed his Prince of Wales Feathers over to the King's Royal Cypher. It also did not occur to me that the new man could be a Lt. Col. and wearing the King's Royal Cypher. IF that is the case, a major-meltdown-weeping-panic may be the order of the day!

I have no doubt we will see Jonny in France next week. The King is no fool and wouldn't forego an experienced Equerry by his side for such an important State Visit, plus the visual spectacle of a 6ft 2 handsome soldier in his ceremonial kilt at the Banquet at Versaille  Jonny works wonders for soft power.
I agree. Can’t see the King taking a new Equerry on an important State visit.

I would almost be prepared to bet this IS the new Part-time equerry.

Hopefully!

"Soft Power" is an excellent way of describing Jonny's presence. Whenever he is seen in pictures or videos, his height and appearance in uniform are quiet yet send a powerful message of strength. I once saw an interesting video about the evolution of the Royal Regiment's Glengarry headdress and learned that it was initially flat like the Tam O-Shanter. It was felt that it did not lend enough "presence" to the soldier so they eventually turned it into the Glengarry-style of headdress. However, they were still not satisfied so they added the tall Blackcock feather. The final presentation of the new headdress package worked for everyone. So, at 6'2" plus the Glengarry + the feather + the thickness of the military brogue soles, Jonny must stand over well over 7 feet in height.

I have never noticed the King's Cypher on Jonny's Aiguillette. What should I look for as in regard to its location?

Surely he would have more medals if he was a Lt col? No?
