I think if you buy what you love & love yourself you aren't always searching for the next best greatest thing - or trading up to the next brand within your price point solely because now you can. If I had unlimited funds, I still wouldn't buy Hermes. Why? Because I have never seen one single item that drew me to it. Has nothing to do with prestige, just personal taste. It's not on my "if I hit the lottery I would buy...XXXXX" because none of it speaks to me. I just got an email featuring the Birkin VS Kelly. For me it's neither. Just not a fan of anything I've seen from them.

+1, Hermes is beautiful but does nothing for me personally. Neither does the Chanel classic flaps. But I do have Chanel's I love. For me LV just works best with my taste and lifestyle.
And I like what you said, buy what you love and love yourself!

I don't feel offended by the OP. She has her own opinion about what bag to buy. I have no comment about it.

Since I was a little girl, I sometime see my relative carry bags in DE print and that bag looks so so so beautiful, amazing chocolate color and red interior. The bag was like a dream for me. At that time, I had no idea about brand name of that bag, I just adore it because it was the only bag caught my eyes and really get printed on my heart. Anytime I see it, even in Trevi or Pochette version, I keep thinking about it. That impression of LV in me was so strong that the first designer bag I bough was a LV in DE.

Simply, my heart sings when I see LV items and that's why I buy them. Now the OP gave a compliment that LV is durable and the most quality bag makes me love my LV even more.

Totally get what you meant, I am not a die hard fan of LV, but I really really like this brand because of numbers of things like its rich history, quality, design and their marketing strategy that covers all range of targets from lower income earners to higher income earners.
And I have my eye on Capuchins since the day they are launched, somehow I just couldn't justify the price(I don't mean it's not worth it), every time I wanted to get handbag in that price range, thought about capuchin but at the end I chose Chanel, so I keep missing purchase my LV holy grail handbag. I guess maybe because I don't love it enough? Don't know why but I do REALLY like that particular bag, I never changed my obsession on it at all.

This is such an interesting thread- particularly for the emotions it has stirred up! I love LVs durability and classic styles that hold value. I probably would have to agree with the poster who stated getting a Capucines is difficult as it's in Chanel price territory. I love the Capucines but I think I tend to look at what will never look dated and that's certainly a classic flap.

What an interesting post! I was in LV a few months ago, at their flagship store in Paris. We were talking to our SA for some time, and we talked about the rich history of the brand. She told me that people keep coming to LV for a reason. She said that their bags wear like iron, and last a long time. Their workmanship is impeccable. I must say, although I'm new to the luxury handbag world, I find that she is right. I have the goyard version of the neverfull (St Louis tote?) and it's super flimsy compared to the neverful. Maybe that's why there are like 200 neverfulls for every goyard bag you see. Plus, I think a lot of LV's iconic designs really never go out of fashion. What about the speedy? The Alma? the neverful? I have an alma in vernis now, and I admit, it's just so solid to carry around. It will last for decades.

When it comes to "prestige," I hadn't ever given it too much thought. If a stylish woman walks in with a Balenciaga, then one with an Alma, followed by another one with a Birkin, they all look fabulous, you know? In my city, I see a lot of luxury bags, and I think they are all fabulous. It's just how you wear it!

But to the original poster's point, I agree that there is a great bang for the buck with LV. It's recognizable (which is fun.. "I love your LV!" I hear all the time), it is a brand with timeless designs, and it wears like iron. What's not to love?
