Louis Vuitton at Dillard's

Several days ago I had a conversation with a woman who was looking at the Louis Vuitton bags in Dillards. She was new to the area and did not know that we had a Louis Vuitton store in our area. I told her I thought the bags that Dillard's was selling were way overpriced for what they were, and she should definitely check out the LV store when she gets a chance. As we walked away from the counter, I felt like someone was probably watching me from the ceiling talking a customer out of one of those bags, LOL. I just don't like to see people getting duped who do not know the brand. From what I could tell all of the bags were authentic but discontinued models selling for way more than they did originally.

A Dillard’s in Houston recently had an LV Piano in not very good condition for $1260! Something about it reminds me of the time a girl tried to sell me “a real Louis Vuitton, ma’am!” out of the trunk of her car. Just overall icky.

I just found this thread because i was in my local Dillards today and was shocked to find a rather large display of preowned designer bags, 90% of which were LV. Many were not in great condition. Water stained and very darkened vachetta. I was astounded at the prices. Higher than retail. And a rather snotty sales girl who knew nothing about the bags (ie speedy sizes). But was quick to explain that you can use flex pay on your Dillards card to spread the payments over a years period. Terrible how uninformed people are overpaying for these bags.

Yes, same thing at my Dillard’s....tons of preowned LV and Gucci and the sales people know nothing about the brands. They were way overpriced and in not so great condition. I was told by one of the sales people that the tote (a DA Neverfull) was “vintage” and that was the reason for the $1650 price tag. Ummm...ok.

Exactly the same at the Greenville Dillard’s...there was a speedy mono 25 for example in terrible condition, worth maybe 500, and was listed over retail for 1029.00. The Takashi Murakami multicolore bags and wallets were insane. A small speedy priced st $2850. The wallets st 800. All in very well used condition. When I asked about the TM bags, she had no idea what I was talking about, also had no clue the Speedy was even a size 25. The people buying these bags are being gauged. It’s awful.

Dillards here also has vintage LVs and Guccis. The white LV duffle was in a glass case by other handbags area. I was curious and ask if there were more bags and they took me up stair where these other vintage bags were lock in a room. I saw tag on these bags that came from "what comes around goes around". dillards1.PNG dillards2.PNG

Saw several LV’s in a Houston Dillard’s recently. Sales associate told me their bags come from What Goes Around. Saw a red Birkin 35 in what I would consider less than very good condition for $18,500! Prices across the board are ridiculous.

I know this is not LV's business model, but perhaps they should consider getting into the pre-loved market at this point. Maybe having a whole separate branding strategy, website and everything. I mean yes they are luxury brand, but they are also a business, and the pre-loved business is booming. Basically if you can't beat them, join them!

I know for me if LV offered pre-loved items for a reasonable price I would go with them instead of other vendors. They would have the ability to possibly reduce fakes by only accepting items to sell from previous customers in their system. Of course this isn't fool proof, but they would have a record/paper trail for each item and anyone trying to swap out fakes for real bags they purchased could be banned.

I was also thinking of maybe a buyback program, where you turn in a pre-loved bag in good condition for store credit towards a new item.

According to my Dillard’s, she said they buy from consignment stores and sell them. I would think this would think that LV wouldn’t be happy about this since Dillard’s is a department store not a consignment shop.
