#2. i am very partial to the pear shaped stone because that is my center stone, so i am going for the pear shaped stones on the sides. very unique and beautiful.

but i do agree with others and say that i wouldn't buy from tiffany because i think for a 1 ct. center stone, $9,000+ is a bit too pricey, imo. but what do i know.

be sure to post when you get it. sorry to hear about your recent loss (been there, done that, unfortunately), but at least you'll have fun picking a new one out.

Add me to the mix...don't buy Tiffany. You can get that same ring made easily by someone else for equal or better quality, for a much better price.

another pear side vote! and go 'generic' and get a bigger, better stone for the price if you can do w/o the stamp...sorry about your loss, but good for you, turning it positive!

LOL... my poor Lucida with Trilliant side stones is losing out! But I did post the wrong one in the OP and by the time someone pointed it out it was too late! LOL. This is the one I meant:

Very interesting responses though - thanks so much... I'm leaning towards the round with the two side baguettes but want to see it in person first. Will keep you all updated for sure!

Oh and I'll definitely look up pricescope.com thanks! And talk to my local jeweler too. I kind of do fall for labels and the whole idea of walking into Tiffany's to have it cleaned etc. but I also want a really beautiful ring! So I'm DEFINITELY open to getting a "generic" ring made to copy it. :) PLUS... for me I do really like white gold and don't feel like I want to pay a premium for platinum... but we'll see!

Sigh. I thought this was going to be fun but DH is really NOT being fun about this at all. We're both bummed about the first ring being stolen. It was a .79 or .80 solitaire, beautiful colour (I think E/F), good/VG cut, and VS1 I think. You could definitely see inclusions with the naked eye - almost like sand in it. Which to be totally honest always kind of bugged me. He wants me to get the EXACT same ring. He thinks I'm "messing with a good thing" (as in our marriage) by getting something different... how do I convince him it's sad but it's JUST a ring and it doesn't have to mean anything bad like that? Half my friend have had their rings stolen or reset! It's so not fun - we got in almost a fight about it today in the car and he ended it by sulking and just saying "fine get whatever you want". :( He said he feels like the first one wasn't good enough (because I'm getting a better/slightly different one). Anyone else experience this?

As a woman, I can TOTALLY understand where you are coming from regarding wanting something different, and side stones to represent your daughters.

However....

He IS a guy, and I think he might be extra sentimental about it because to him it symbolizes what he can offer you. I'm not sure what your situation was when you got engaged, but that may have been the single, largest purchase he has EVER made, and in his mind, he may have seen that exact stone and those exact specs (and the blood sweat and tears he endured to pay for it) as being well-worth it b/c it was FOR YOU. So now that the ring is gone, he might feel let down that you don't want to duplicate it.

If it were me and I were in your shoes, I would probably get the exact same thing, but then again, I am very sentimental and I love my ring so much I'd never change it. However, if you are set on something totally different, then just explain to him that side stones are important to you b/c of your daughters.

Maybe then he'll let it go....

What do you think?

I'm guessing the Lucinda ring that the OP referenced is actually this one: http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10008#f+8/0/0/0/0/0

And, it's my favorite of the three. Sufergirljen -- I'd recommend visiting pricescope.com to research all of your options. You'll certainly get a bigger bang for your buck if you go with Whiteflash or Brian Gavin.

I agree that Whiteflash or Brian Gavin are the way to go, especially if you want a RB.

I love option 3. It's very similar to one done by Leon Mege, whose work I love.

As someone who got taken advantage of and had bad dealings with WF when the Gavins were still there, look beyond just those two vendors. They couldn't make my wedding band for sh!t and it kept cracking, a couple came "precracked" to me even. It took a year of legal drama to get most of my money back.

I know what you mean. And the funny thing is after thinking about what I'd like in a dream ring for a week or so now I'm very close to the one he picked! My original ring is here in this pic:

and the one I think I want is this:

Just the baguettes are different! Not that big a stretch is it? :) I ruled out the lucida square design to make him happy already. And I wouldn't mind sizing up a teeny bit - he wouldn't even notice that. Just to say it's 1 carat.

I get what you're saying... I just think that it's a bit of a wasted opportunity not to get something slightly more splashy after 5 years if we can, you know? Sigh. I think I'll let him come around on his own ... he's going on vacation with his family for 10 days in Australia soon and maybe he'll feel so guilty for leaving me and the girls at home that he'll change his mind. :) Part of me is annoyed b/c although I get your point, it's my ring and it's supposed to make ME happy, no?

Thanks for the warning. :) Since I'm in Canada I'll likely go local here... wouldn't order a diamond online. But am still open to "generic"...

May I ask why you rule out the internet? Many of those stones are the same you'd get from a local jeweler (literally the same exact actual stone)...or that can be obtained by a local jeweler but through and online shop could be substantially lower cost.

My e-ring was also lost or stolen about 4 and 1/2 years ago. It was a .93 marquis. It was a very long and thin marquis so it looked bigger than it was. I had the most beautiful platinum setting that was quite substantial in weight. I also had a wedding band that complimented it and I wore together on same finger. My replacement ring is very similar to your #3. I went with a round stone approx. 1.21 and bagettes on side - just like the Tiffany. Although the stone is a little bigger than previous one and we added $1000-$2000 (I forget exactly), the ring itself is much daintier. And I wear a Hidalgo eternity band (little diamonds all around) on other hand. Unfortunately my e-ring has been too big on me all summer so I'm unable to wear until I get it fixed. Your husband will probably come around. You're only talking about a small upgrade. I actually looked into upgrading stone to just under 2 carats and it was way too exprnsive. It also did not even look that much bigger than my 1.21.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!
