Lord and Taylor is selling counterfeit products and has been doing so for over a year now. They know their products are fake and I am flabbergasted that this is being allowed. I purchased a gucci bag in december and thought it looked off. Had it looked at by 2 professional authenticator and it was a counterfeit. Many reviews on line also say that they are selling fake products. Yes, I should have read them first, but like many people I thought lord and taylor was a trusted store. I have even seen it stated on here that it can be trusted. Lord and Taylor went out of business a few years ago. An investment group bought the name for 12 million, opened an online store only and started selling counterfeit products. If you purchased from then in the last year it is probably a fake bag. I spent two thousand dollars. I returned the bag and received a refund but I am aghast that this company has been allowed to operate legally in the us. Take my warning and do not purchase from Lord and Taylor.

Yikes! That is awful. Thank you so much for the warning. I’m glad you were able to get a full refund, but sorry that you had to waste your time and money on authentication services. Such a shame. L&T used to be such an iconic NYC dept store.

Yep- it is aweful. While I did lose some money in authentication and the shipping they charged me for the fake bag, I learned several lessons from this. Mainly, nowadays you have to be very very careful where you purchase your bags. Going forward I will only buys bags from the direct store. I actually contacted Gucci after my purchase and asked if Lord and Taylor was an authorized place to purchase their bags and they said - no. These fakes from a distance look very similar to the real thing. Their return window was also very short- not 30 days.

For me everything looked spot except the thread that was used. I have 4 marmont gucci bags purchased directly from gucci stores- including one in the same beige color. Side by side everything to me looked perfect except the thread was wrong. Gucci uses thicker slightly sheen thread. The fake bag had thin different colored thread. If I didnt have my real bags or access to authentication I could have been easily fooled. Since I'm not an expert I contacted someone who was. If we can afford these expensive bags we should spend a few more bucks to have them authenticated. I'm glad I did. I would have never been able to sell the fake and I would have been out 2000 dollars.

How weird. Are you able to post an up close picture of the thread on the fake bag if you have one, vs the thread on a real Gucci? I want to check my bags now

Sure- I will try to get a good pic of my real gucci bag thread. I dont have the fake anymore- just the pics above.
This experience has made me never want to purchase a bag anywhere but the source, which is a shame in a way cause I know there are real bags on fashionphile and other places.

I got mine from Saks off fifth. I feel like that’s a reputable store but now after seeing this post I’m doubting it.

I see now it is from saks off fifth. I have no idea if they sell real Gucci's or not. My only advice is if it is not directly from Gucci's spend a few more bucks and have it authenticated if you have doubt.
Yeah who knows. I’ve seen terrible reviews online about lord and Taylor being scandalous. At least there’s a physical Saks off fifth store I can walk into

I know- I feel like an idiot for thinking it was a safe place to purchase from. That's the thing though- some places outside of gucci are probably authentic and some like Lord and Taylor are not. Because it literally involves thousands of dollars I will only buy from the source from now on.

Not Gucci, but years ago, (when their stores were closing in Houston but it was not announced for a week later) I went in to return a pearl necklace, that I'd bought just a day prior. It was expensive, and after I looked at it closer, I wasn't certain about it. Went in, and at first they said it was not returnable. I questioned why, as it was within the time period, first she said that jewelry was not returnable. I said, well, I asked about that yesterday when it was purchased, and see here, the sales person initialled the return parametres. Then she said it had been worn. I said, well, if it has, it was worn by someone else, as it still has the tags and is the box exactly like when I purchased it. (It had several tags, spaced within the necklace, so if it had been worn the tags would have been apparent.) Then they said it was counterfeit. I said really, you sell counterfeit merchandise in your store, by this time there was a crowd. After that, a manager looked at the piece, and returned it. I thought then, I'll never come back into this store, and I didn't. It was the most humiliating experience I have had in awhile. It would not surprise me that they would sell counterfeit Gucci items.
