Just called Birks re: vca... discussing prices (will make them match the US prices if I go there)...
... he warned of the price increase next week on VCA too and suspected (as I've heard already here) that predominately gold pieces will go up more than diamond-based ones due to the rising price of gold. Which pretty much explains the LOVE situation - ALL GOLD!

I just spoke with a SA at Cartier named Kin, they are completely sold out of RG and YG love bracelets in plain gold, so I'm going to have to special order my bracelet next week and wait for it to come in
ohwell at least I will be avoiding the price increase, Kin confirmed the increase will be July 1st and it will be 15% taking the bracelet from 4850 to 5577.50
so I need to purchase before then because will taxes it will definitley be out of the range I wanted to spend!!!

Well... he said "of course we would love to have your business so get the US price and I will see what I can do to make you happy." In general the more expensive the item the more motivated they are to do this... like I'm pretty sure Tiffany's and Birks won't budge on anything under $1,000 but when you get up to over $10K they are more flexible and very conscious of the US/CND price difference vs/ exchange rate situation right now. I'm sure Birks would come down a bit...

OMG that's insane! Yes you definitely need to go in and special order it next week... sorry you'll have to wait! I'm not surprised at all that they are sold out - my VCA SA said their store is almost empty right now b/c of all the pre-increase buying frenzies!! Oh well... be happy you're getting it for less and that it'll be here soon! Did they have any idea how long it'll be? I know you hate waiting!!
I can't believe they are increasing it again. Although I am almost positive that the one everyone was talking about in the US in March or April did NOT happen here, so I'm kind of confused! I know it's about $550 less in the US - I think I paid $4200 for mine? God I don't even remember but I know I saved $550 from the CND price and the CND boutique would not budge - I'm pretty tight with the SA as she used to work at Birks in VCA and she's lovely, but she said that Cartier doesn't price match the US and as much as she wanted to sell me one told me if I was going down I should get it there! Oh well.
