Long strand of pearls advice!

I vote for the second pair of shoes.

As far as the pearls go, the ones from TJMAXX look to be fresh water pearls, most likely cheap Chinese. While they are cultured pearls, I am not a fan of the ringed, off shape. The luster doesn't seem to be there, probably due to very thin nacre. These pearls are cheap & will fade over time. Just because they are genuine pearls does not necessarily make them good pearls.

Personally, I think a classic, round strand of salt water Akoya would look best or a strand of Tahitian pearls. These type pearls generally have luster & sheen. A good pearl should be so luminous that it looks wet.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. A triple A strand of Akoya or Tahitian would be more of an investment & would become heirlooms to be passed down. But they will also cost considerably more. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can find a good quality of faux pearls that will have the luster you should be seeking.

I am a pearl girl. It's my birthstone & I've acquired many over the years. Pearls are classic & elegant. I often find myself reaching for pearls if I ever have any doubt about what jewelry to wear.

Hopefully someone else will chime in here because I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but to me the TJMaxx pearls don't look like very good cultured pearls. They're heavily ridged and it looks like the nacre is thin and chipping. When you buy pearls, whether fake or cultured, what you want to look at is the lustre and color. And you want to look at the shape and whether they're evenly sized. Great pearls have a memorable glow and shimmer. I think one is better off having one exquisite pearl on a chain than a long string of bad-looking pearls.

I love the dress and I think it looks fabulous on you. I think you should be careful with the pearls because you don't want multiple strings detracting from your beauty in the dress. If it were me I would do a single strand of very good glass fakes, not too long. Or one very beautiful pearl on a long chain but only if you think you would wear it regularly in the future.

me too! I am a big fun of vintage or new faux pearls. They are beautifu! :smile1:

It's really hard to tell from your photos. Can you take the strand you have already bought and compare it directly with the other? You will know immediately which you prefer.

This sort of thing is very personal. Frankly faux can sometimes look better than real. Also the pearl finish is a thin layer so you will have to look carefully to see how it will show wear if worn hanging low.

Long pearls are a timeless look. You can't go wrong wearing either strand.

Well I really don't want to spend a lot right now on pearls maybe in the future I will. Where would I buy a good pair of faux ones that don't look like costume jewelry? Thanks ladies for all your help.

Congratulations to your son on his Communion!
I have a Kenneth Jay Lane pearl choker that I love. I couldn't find the one I bought but I found this one. With the neckline of your lovely dress...this might be a good length and not take away from the lace. Adjustable 16"-19".

These would look lovely with your dress without detracting from the beauty of it. While I'm not very familiar with best brand of faux pearls to buy, Swarovski (sp) also makes faux pearls. Their crystal jewelry is very popular, so they may be an option as well.

So I went to the boutique that I bought the dress from today. I've been obsessing about this Chanel necklace she has. Here is a photo of it. So beautiful and it's a real Chanel stamped ImageUploadedByPurseForum1459887633.904996.jpg

Than I went to a resale boutique around the corner and found this necklace kinda vintage looking with the broochImageUploadedByPurseForum1459887716.295540.jpg

I'm not a fan of baroque or ringed pearls, so I prefer the Target ones. Until you can afford Mikimoto, check out Majorca. Their pearls are costume but they're still really pretty.

Hmmm.... The Chanel necklace is alright, but I think it's a bit much.

I'm pretty conservative so maybe it's just me, but I'd stick with s single strand.

Is the above photo the neckline of the dress?

I second the advice to look for a single strand of Kenneth Jay Lane glass faux pearls or vintage Majorca ones. You can find them for about $20-$30 second-hand on ebay. They really have a lovely sheen. Very classy. Don't know what KJL pearls look like these days but in years past they were tops. They were the brand Jackie Kennedy wore.

Chanel faux pearls keep popping up in the "Not worth it..." thread of regretted purchases, jewelry lovers complaining that they're hideously over-priced plastic pearls.

Thanks yes I think I want to stick with the single strand and keep it classy looking. No that isn't the dress line here is a photo of the dress ImageUploadedByPurseForum1459923163.768165.jpgImageUploadedByPurseForum1459923171.935258.jpg

Thank you ladies for all your help I'll look into the brand you guys had told me. I do know that the Chanel is probably not worth it cause they are faux pearls. That necklace she was charging $345 which I got a bit excited since it's a auth Chanel for that price haha...

Your dress is gorgeous and the second pair of heels will look so elegant with it.

If I were you, I'd go to a Nordstrom or Dillard's this week and check out their pearls in person. It will definitely be a bit pricier but a good strand of pearls is an investment piece! [emoji171]
