Lining up for Hermes - thoughts, rants, raves

You are using exactly the same argument to defend the line sitters as I am to defend Hermes. It's capitalism. Pure and simple. They have coveted bags. Demand exceeds supply. On average the people lining up bring less money to the company than their regular customers. Why should they have to provide extra resources to this group of customers? It's in their financial interest to discourage the crazy line that surely scares off good customers and to reward the customers who regularly shop with them. That's capitalism. And at least they are honest: providing good jobs to their workers and quality products to their clients.

And before everyone gets worked up: I'm saying on average. I'm not describing every person in the line.

Reposting this from the first thread as a gentle reminder:
There are other threads for how you feel you are treated at Hermes, the ease or lack of same of getting bags in general, should a luxury brand do this, Paris tourism/what to do while you wait for a bag, the merits of buying from resellers, etc.

I understand that the most recent discussion does touch on the line system itself, but debating the merits of capitalism or how much more or less Hermes makes as a result of the line is kind of beside the point of this thread.

Thanks all.

But it's quite obvious to me that these people are queuing for others ... Either someone sent them or they are selling their spots. How can normal people compete with that ...
Yes, I was just about to say these are probably line sellers. No matter how much you love a Birkin or Kelly, you won't line up for one for more than 12 hours, especially if you're not sure you're gonna get sold one, especially if you're a guy. :D

After my night cap, I had to walk five steps to have another look...

That's exactly the point. It's going to get so ridiculous, the only way of getting an appointment is through a line seller. Ugh. Well the more ridiculous it gets, the more likely H will have to do something and not turn a blind eye.
