Lettre Kelly love or hate?

One instagram reseller has stopped accepting Lettre Kellys for consignment. He said he's having a hard time moving the bags. So he advises people to not get these bags if ever they just want to resell later at a premium.

Just an FYI :)

I certainly don't mean to disrespect anyone or their purchasing habits, but am I the only one that feels this is a good thing? If people only bought what they liked, rather than focused on investment and profit, perhaps there would be a smaller reseller market and more bags available to shoppers in store.

Or perhaps I have my rose tinted shades on and it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference!

I think one of my naive intentions is actually along these lines, I just wasn't able to put it in these words earlier. This would make the Lettre Kellys more accessible to people who really want the bag.

I'm sure I'm not the only one but whenever I see resellers get a hold of rare bags (a Birkin Sellier in black boxcalf that came out last year, for example), it makes me a bit sad that it went to them first instead of someone who really wants it; someone from here, for instance.

Oh well. First come, first served; some people want to make money, etc :)

This has some chicken and egg aspects to it as the fact that that bags are so hard to get adds to the desirability and people want the bags in part because of the exclusivity associated which adds to the prestige. The reselling market for H bags and especially Birkin and kelly makes it clear that these bags are incredibly sought after. For Hermes, at least they know they can sell these bags at the blink of an eye, and also use them to sell other items in the store. If they wanted to get rid of resellers, they could've just raised the prices until the bags took longer to leave the shelves...

All very logical and thought out thoughts. I suppose it's the egalitarian side of me that sometimes thinks a more even distribution of items to those 'deserving' would be fair, but ultimately, what even is fair and how can anyone ever really establish that? Additionally, ultimately, Hermes are in the business of making money and creating attractive and desirable items is all part and parcel of that.

Apologies, I've taken this WAY off topic - for me these bags are absolutely stunning in the craftsmanship of inlaying the leather and I really like the bold graphic feel of the archive archive font used. Although not something I would ever use, this very much falls into the 'art' camp of items I could have sat on a shelf and appreciate.

I totally get what you are saying. This is also quite telling. If the resellers find it difficult to shift those bags, it probably also means that they are just not desirable as was previously thought therefore should make it more accessible (via reseller or H stores) for people who really really love them. I think it will even out eventually.

I have and love mine from the boutique. But I've seen resellers trying to get more than 2X retail on the Kelly Lettre. There's no way in  I would have paid the $31,000 I have seen an NYC reseller asking for the bag. If this means fewer speculative purchases, I'm all for it. The blue on blue that's coming up for fall is beautiful, but the exotic mixes do nothing for me. If you haven't see the bag in person, it's really wearable. I'm going to carry mine today!

I totally agree people should only buy what they want for themselves. Coming back to the aesthetic of the bag itself, I think the popularity will change a lot after the 18AW ones start hitting the store. They're all very pretty. The 18SS ones are more like art pieces to a small group of collectors but all the 18AW ones are sophisticated and very wearable.

The SO thread has news about being able to customize the lettre k. Would you choose a lettre k or a basic b/k for your SO? I’m interested to hear your thoughts!

I can’t list the lettre colors off the top of my head, so I wouldn’t be able to tell if someone’s lettre is a SO. For me, I wouldn’t choose the lettre SO unless you can pick a different size (ie 25).

I can’t agree more. I have letter H and it is really wearable. And $31k is outrageous imo!!! I dearly love mine. It was not on my radar at first until I saw the bag in person. It completely stole my heart!
