Never heard of the first guy-lol. Who wore it better? Lenny! ;)
 :amazed:

Well you better educate yourself then  Marc Bolan of T.Rex is a legend (just like Hendrix) and I am sure one of Lenny's idols. Tragically died at the age of 29.

As much as I love Lenny, he still strikes me as a later copy of the original thing. Almost everything he wears is a pastiche of rock stars that came before him. But it's ok, I love that style myself and I'm happy to see it out there. Does he look good in it? Sure. But music is more important than looks. All these men I've mentioned were and are massively talented.

Yes, this is definitely a Lenny Kravitz thread as it should be.
But I have to respond to the Hendrix debate…….To compare Hendrix, one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, to someone like Marc Bolan is way off. Also in terms of the boa, on the cover of Hendrix first album Are You Experienced he was wearing a boa 1967. I can’t imagine Hendrix copying a member of T-Rex. That’s silly. If Lenny wants to borrow from Hendrix, well that’s fine.

Lenny’s style is definitely inspired by these looks from the 60’s and 70’s.

He does justice to the look and I don’t think his intention is to be better than these legends. More like paying homage to them, in both their style and their music.

These artists would eventually be forgotten if it wasn’t for other artists like Lenny taking inspiration from them.

No-one was really comparing. I'm not into comparing musicians as that is both pointless and impossible. To me they are all great and they happened to wear the same item of clothing in their day. Who wore it first? Who knows. Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix were both wearing theirs roughly at the same time. Marc came shortly after that. Lenny is continuing the tradition. That is all. I was responding to the claim that Kravitz is the only one who can wear the thing and look hot. Not the only one but whatever.

I don't think Hendrix and Bolan would be forgotten as they brought something new to the table. Kravitz is continuing their tradition in his own way. I better leave this thread before you all start ripping my hair out. You can go back to your drooling now.

Gee. Why is this thread getting so hostile?
I had never heard of Marc Bolan and can see from the video posted that he might have influenced Lenny.
It is not that deep

I was a bit surprised to be honest. I meant no ill will, I like Lenny's music and have for a long time. I wasn't challenging his position or anything or comparing three musicians. I didn't actually know too much about Marc Bolan until a few years ago. I didn't know he was quite influential (well he wouldn't be on RRHOF if he wasn't). Without him there might not have been Ziggy Stardust or glam rock. But I know I'm on borrowed time here, people want to get back to Lenny Kravitz as it is his thread.

I knew exactly what you were saying. So no trouble from my end. And thank you for posting about them! One thing I love about these threads is how much I learn or how they trigger memories. I think many rock artists from the late 60's and early 70's had extravagant/feather boa moments. Even Robert Plant got a little saucy for a minute there.

Thank goodness we have the hotness that is Lenny Kravitz to carry on the essence of his predecessors. Few to none can do it like him!

Yes, I agree, Lenny was inspired by these looks.

And it is still on topic, because some may not know he's not original. Gorgeous, yes, but influenced by what he knows will look good on him.
