Black Legacy Zip Hobo 9966 made in the USA in 2001; purchased at Savers for $15 and graciously authenticated by Hyacinth.

Here are some more before pics. The bag had a whitish-gray powdery substance on the sides and back. I was worried about mildew but it didn't smell like mildew.

I wiped the bag down well with Lysol (inside and out) before cleaning, just in case. The substance came off pretty easily in the bath and I didn't have any mildew problems. :sweatdrop:

Here are some after pics. I just gave her a bath, shaped her with towels during the early stages of drying, conditioned the leather and polished the hardware. I didn't have to do anything special and I am very pleased with the results.

There are a few indentation marks in the leather on the front of the bag near the left side. I massaged them with my fingers during washing and conditioning and I think that are little bit less obvious now. I decided not to try more aggressive approaches to get the marks out, for fear of damaging the leather.

Here are some more after pics. The bag is very similar in size, shape, and style to my black Stewardess Bag so I think that I am going to give this bag to one of my sisters.

Stunning bag! What a great job-the leather looks so soft and supple now.

Thanks! I love the smushy leather and the soft, gleaming patina of vintage leather coach bags!

I wish I could have seen one of the newly re-designed and recently released Coach Classics IRL. I am sure that they are nice, because Coach makes good-quality bags, but the leather looks sort of stiff and shiny in the photos, IMO. There are still some available from Net-a-Porter so maybe you can see what I mean:

I prefer the "soft richness" of my vintage/near-vintage rehabbed bags and I really like the price too! :graucho:

Of course, rehabbed bags are not pristine, but for $15 and a little elbow grease, my new-to-me, made in the USA, Legacy Zip is a pretty nice bag! :yahoo:

And I get the satisfaction of bringing a fine object back to beauty and usefulness!
