Korean fashion style thread : what is it?

Actually I just found a small shop in my city where the owner designs herself and produces in Vietnam w local tailors, for a reasonable price. She also buys Korean items she resells...like that oversized trench coat. Her esthetics fit the minimalist style.

I watch Kdrama. The most recent one I watched, World of Married Couple, is about a doctor. She wore really nice outfits! And lots of designer bags. I think her coats and scarves are Max Mara.

Yes, we literally have a capsule wardrobe just there in that article!
Ditsy florals....lol they definitely have a more romantic style than I have! I have always had trouble with overly feminine things in the floral, bohemian style. I´m more of a "structured" person.
Cool other links on that page also :) I may have been watching way too many K-dramas despite them being sooo slow)

There are many k fashion designers on w concept, including well known ones like Low Classic. Look around, many of the aesthetics on that website are similar to what you see worn on streets of korea.
Omg I had forgotten that post and I just discovered that brand by coincidence 2 days, I think an item was suggested on Farfetch or something, and I am HOOKED. It’s just exactly my style....

I found a great article on yes style about the fashion in “it’s ok not to be ok”. I personally can’t pull off the frilly ruffles girly style. it’s not me.
And was browsing for more inspiration with the clothes but I don’t think I can buy it seems too cheap and my measurements wouldn’t fit Asian standards.

Definitely recommend YesStyle for inspiration & subtle pieces, but do note that there's been some questionable debate on consumer ethics. That aside, I do agree that stuff there is a hit or a miss. Definitely check reviews before buying!! Some of my personal rule of thumbs when shopping there are:

1) Know what fabric you prefer best. I stay away from polyester and chiffon on a regular basis, but I've found some pieces on YesStyle that were too cute to pass up on. Ended up returning them all because they felt really cheap. (I have found some staple pieces for my wardrobe, though, so it's not entirely out of the question haha. Purchased this really soft mock-turtleneck sweater that I always get compliments on, for only ~$10!! No piling, even after 2-3 years. My former boss even loved it as well, and she asked me to purchase some for her too.)

2) Sizing is a SERIOUS issue. Yesstyle goes by Asian sizing so go for a size up if you're not petite or don't have a typical Asian physique. (I'm a size 00 and 5'0 for reference but there's been times where even their smallest sizes wouldn't fit me...)

3) They charge shipping fees for returns. I buy a lot of (Asian-branded) cosmetics from them which almost always works out for me but when it comes to clothing, anything that I'm unsure of goes in a separate order. That way, the return fee becomes easier to stomach. It's also only credit only. (OT, but I highly recommend 3CE/Stylenanda products! I prefer them over typical brands here in NA. Also, I know that I order often from them, so the credit only isn't an issue for me.)

Korean fashion emphasizes sleek/modern & minimalist style, almost always feminine yet appropriate office wear. A lot of dramas are sponsored, so clothing that you'll see on actors/actresses are likely from Korean brands. (IIRC, some actresses/actors prefer to wear their own clothing; that's why you'll sometimes see "poor" characters wearing high end stuff. I think Park Shin Hye has been caught a few times.)

In terms of casual fashion, I find that a lot of them mix lower brands with expensive statement pieces. (Bags, usually.) In terms of dressing oversized (such as in pictures above), you'll want to take notice of your body type and proportions as they tend to put a lot of thought into that. That's why even if one attempts to purchase the same ensemble as an actor/actress, it might not look the same. Most of the style above would look frumpy on me, unfortunately--but it's so nice to see on other people.

Trench coats and (oversized) blazers seem to be a must-have as well. (They also had (have?) a trend in the winter with oversized puffer jackets.) Most of the time, it's comfort + minimalism + neutral tones.

Personally, I like the Jung sister's fashion style, but it's not necessarily the same as above. They tend to emphasize their body in a subtle way more than hide it.

Shout out to Kim Goeun's fashion in Cheese in the Trap, though! I'm pretty sure she's what made me buy my Alexander Wang Marti hahaha.

Try googling minimalist Korean street style for some inspiration too.

W Concept is a good site for mid-priced Korean brands and designers.

I've shopped SSF shop and they have a huge range of designers and brands. They seem to run a lot of promotions too so sign up for an account – I think they give a first time discount. One of my favorites on there is 8Seconds – it's a fair priced brand but their clothes are minimalist with a bit of fun. I bought a 3/4 sweater with different colored ribbing trim from them after seeing it on a member of Blackpink and it was perfect for work and regular outfits. (She had worn it under a sleeveless dress, but I wear it without doing layers.) I've heard good things about the brand Beaker too.

YesStyle has a mix of Asian brands including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean brands. I warn you to be careful with them – I've had issues with them this past year where they told me an order was going to ship quickly and it sat in a shipping carrier in my country for almost a month before dispatching to my address in rough shape. (In the past their items came from Hong Kong, but I was surprised they had something coming from further north in my area and country. Why it took almost a month to reach me is beyond me, but their customer service team was a nightmare and insisted they told me in my confirmation that my order would experience delays – my e-mail confirmations showed otherwise.) They do not do full refunds either if you wish to return something because you don't like it or it doesn't fit – you can only do store credit. (The only exception is if something you ordered is sold out and they can't fulfill the order as promised – then you get a refund on your original payment.)

I’ll check that first website you mentioned.
For inspiration I follow on Instagram R2W (ready 2 wear) and the brand Low Classic
Quite expensive but I’m in the lookout if some pieces end up on Vestiaire Collective. A bit out of subject but I also like the style of Tibi (American brand) and their weekly style class on insta is pretty cool!!

I live in Japan (now) and have traveled to SK a few times. I feel like between JP and SK fashion SK is definitely closer to Western fashion (I know that's broad but).

SK fashion is getting pretty popular in JP too. I remember a Japanese woman said in an article that "Japanese fashion is supposed to make you look cute, but Korean fashion makes you look good" and after thinking about that for a while I think it's true. JP fashion really covers up your body and besides suits it tends to be pretty baggy. Large-chested women always complain that they look bad in clothes/can't enjoy fashion because it looks bad on them. Also I can't find any good pictures of it but there's a dress style kind of like this that you see everywhere except somehow even more of a grandma style and normally it goes to the floor lol Also UNIQLO (and second GU, the sister store) is definitely king here. Japanese people will fight to protect its rep and there's plenty of people who get their entire wardrobes from there

Also I'm not sure about what it's like in SK since I mostly stayed near major cities but in Japan there's a huuuge difference in fashion in big cities/touristy areas vs the country side. I feel like I'm in another world when I switch between the two because it's so jarring.
