Kim Kardashians Ebay Auction!!!!

I see nothing wrong with anyone, rich or not, selling their unwanted items in anyway they wish.

I sell on Ebay, does that make me unclassy?

No. It makes me frugal to recycle those things I don't want any longer into things I do want.

She has the right to do so whether she donates to a cause or not. It is very nice of her to give some proceeds to the charity even if it is only a marketing ploy. Who cares. No one makes the bidders bid.

More power to her for cleaning out her closet. Now that is an accomplishment!
:goodpost:

what do you guys think about her selling stuff on ebay? to me its not the classiest thing in the world..

First of all it's not tacky to sell your items on ebay. If anything it makes Kim and her family seem like down-to-earth people or at least more accessible than other celebrities. What a snobby thing to say.

That said, not ALL of it is going to charity just proceeds. So her and her family are making a killing off of these auctions. Most of this stuff they get free from designers so they are a sh$tload of money as only a small portion goes to charity and they never had to pay for most of this stuff to begin with.

Well, they are actually not all for charity... If you click on the auctions, it says 10% of the final price goes to charity - That part of classy. The remaining 90%? Not so much IMO.

Oh, and the Maserati that is up for auction (cool car!) yields 5% to charity. I guess, and this is probably easy for me to say when discussing someone else's money, that she could sell her used clothes and just donate the proceeds to charity alltogether. Just my opinion...

Yup, you said it girl. At the end of this their profit will be well over 100K

I do not think it's tacky for an individual to sell his or her items on ebay anonymously it is fun and cute even if a wealthy person does that. I had a temp job at Citibank and one of the 50 y/o stock brokers used to sell old cds on ebay (he also would sing "don't be fooled by the rocks that I got - I'm still Jenny from the Block) ...

I think it is tacky because she is using her celebrity so shamelessly to earn a couple bucks. She is not only selling the item but she is selling its association to herself. She is also using the charity tie in as a means to market her items and increase their final auction value. The "proceeds go to charity" thing is QUITE sketchy IMO - First as a lot of you said 10 % is such a small amount. Also the charity aspect may make people more inclined to bid higher for that reason.

SECOND I find it tacky because she is so vocal about the item's associate to herself. If Courtney Love auctioned off all of Kurt Cobain's items just to pad her bank account and have 10 % of the proceeds to suicide awareness (with Kurt's images all over the auction and a video intro from Ms Love herself bolstering the items) would you not find that to be tacky. It reeks of desperation to me.

It's similar to fallen celebs doing info-mercials, but I am not trying to hate on her game you have to admit she is a hustler (on her show she talked about various businesses she started relating to the re-selling of fashion while growing up)

I have no issue with her auctioning off her things~if she can, hopefully she can give to cahrity with the profits???

The thing that makes me chuckle a bit is she says she is "plus sized" Never in my world has size XS been considered plus!!! C'mon Kim!

The Gastineau Girls also sell their stuff on feebay. Their ID is gazinauctions. They have some nice stuff.
Tori Spelling sold lots of her stuff on feebay when she was trying to raise money after her mom left her broke. I forgot the ID she was under.

Just to clarify, I meant it was not classy to sell stuff which is not washed!
I have no problem with selling on ebay. I think its great actually.
I just meant I thought they should at least wash their stuff before selling it, unless they think it will go higher unwashed? i have no idea.
Didnt mean to stir up drama.
sorry.

why does everything have to be about class?

Agreed.

I don't see anything wrong with what they are doing, I see it as smart. They have money to begin with, and they continue to make money with selling their worn clothes. There is certainly nothing wrong with making money.

I think its nice that a percentage is going toward charity - they didn't have to do that to begin with. And who knows what they give to charity outside of Ebay - probably quite a bit.

Kim isnt a stranger to the ebay auction. Before she became famous, selling her and her familys stuff as well as other famous celebs (when she used to style/organize closets) was what she did. On the E THS she even said thats how she made her money.
