KENDALL AND KYLIE JENNER TALK FASHION, DATING, AND KEEPING IT ALL TOGETHER
Kendall Jenner and her younger sister Kylie Jenner may be teenagers, but theyre also reality-TV stars, fashion designers and aunts to two nieces and a nephew. So while their fellow high school buddies are at summer camp, the Jenner sisters are spending their summer designing a new collection of their clothing line for PacSun, getting to know big sis Kims daughter North West, and batting down pesky tabloid rumors about Jaden Smith, Ireland Baldwin and Lil Twist. How do you guys like being aunts to North West?
Kylie: Its really, really nice. Ive never had a little sister or brother or anything so I even told Kim, Shes my little sister, not my niece, you know that, right? Shes like, Yeah."
Kendall: I love it. Weve been aunts for almost four years now but I love it. I love, love, love kids and playing with them and being around them and Im always around Mason and Penelope and babysitting and visiting, so I love it."
Do you ever get style advice from Kanye or show him your design sketches?
Kylie: Actually, yeah, for sure. He is becoming kind of like another big brother to me. Even with our fashion line, he looks at all of it and is like, I wanna help you design. Its really cool."
Kendall, it seems youre more private on social media but we saw that you have a boyfriend these days. Will we see him on the show?
Kendall: No, no. I like my private life private."
Youll be a senior this year. What do you plan to do after high school? Pursue modeling full time?
Kendall: Yeah, thats what Im planning on doing and hoping it succeeds."
Speaking of dating, you said you feel youre linked to everyone you hang out with. Any rumors youd like to clear up about Jaden Smith or Lil Twist, Kylie?
Kylie: Twist has been both of our friends forever and were not dating. Hes a great friend. I see him often."
Kendall: I think the thing is, [Kylie] is so social. She loves Instagram; she loves Keek and every time shes with someone, shes taking pictures with them so people know shes with those people all the time. Im with them too but I dont take pictures every time with them."
Kylie: Usually its paparazzi pictures. Even when I was hanging out with Twist, it was like Twist, me and literally 10 of our friends to the right of us and theyll cut out this little picture and say we were at the movies when we were grocery shopping and cut out Ralphs in the background. And then Jaden has been my friend forever. Were really close.
Whats the craziest thing you ever read about yourself that was untrue?
Kylie: Literally, every single male that Im with, Im dating. So Im dating all of Calabasas, I guess."
Kendall: That Im feuding with my friends who are now coming into their own. They take every little thing and make it a story. My friend Ireland Baldwin shes a really good friend of mine. Ive known her since kindergarten or whatever and she has become a model now and there was a thing in a magazine saying They hate each other now and are fighting over being models and Im like What? What are you saying? Im happy for her. Its ridiculous."
And how about you, Kylie?
Kylie: I dont think I want to pursue modeling but doing stuff is always fun. Modelings cool but I dont really see myself as a model. I am still 15. But I love acting. I want to try that out and see if I like that."
Are you taking classes?
Kylie: Ive been doing theater forever and Ive been to visit private teaching things just to see how it works. But until I really figure out what I want to do, Im not going to take any classes."
Ever had a fashion disaster or wardrobe malfunction?
Kendall: One hundred percent! In the first season of the show, I just remember looking back at those episodes and the outfits we would wear were horrendous like so bad. I dont know what we were thinking. I was kind of a tomboy and I feel like the first season was my transition from getting out of that tomboy stage, so I was half tomboy, half not. Kylie would wear zebra-print leggings with bright blue shorts and a bright blue collared shirt and Converse that went up to here." (gestures to knee)
Kylie: I thought my outfits were so cool."
You girls live together, film a show together and work together on your fashion line. How do you deal with conflict or different opinions?
Kylie: I mean, were family, so well have our little fights or whatever here and there. But were all close, which Im so grateful for."
Kendall: I dont think we get bugged by it. We are together a lot but we dont really hang out when were just at home unless its like Do you wanna watch this movie? or whatever. Her friends are always over, my friends are always over. When were home, we have our moments alone or separate.
How would you girls describe your individual style?
Kylie: Kendall is more like the epitome of model style. Shes very classy and beachy and simple."
Kendall: Kylie is a little edgier. She likes to wear all black a lot shes very dark."
What kind of advice do your sisters give you?
Kendall: Being in the industry, they just say not to listen to the haters. Khloe [Kardashian] always told me theres gonna be so many people that tell you that they love you, but those three people that tell you that they hate you or youre ugly or you suck or whatever. Thats the thing youre going to listen to most and thats goingto get you down and ruin your self-esteem, so to just not look at it is like, 100 times better, because the majority of the people actually do love you so not to worry about it. For the tabloids and stuff, the majority of that stuff is untrue so just dont even look at it. It wont get you down if you dont pay attention."
Who are your celebrity style icons?
Kendall: Our sisters, the Olsen twins, Rihanna."
Kylie: I like Rita Oras style."
How involved are you girls with the PacSun line?
Kendall: Very involved! We do everything from picking patterns to colors to designing the actual product Were not in the factory, obviously."
Kylie: (joking) We sew everything."
Kendall: Could you imagine? I feel like people would buy it more if they thought we actually sewed it."
You have such busy schedules! How do you stay on top of everything?
Kendall: We got [to New York] last night were not adjusted to the time change!"
Kylie: The amount of times Ive been to LAX this week is insane. I literally think Ive been there more than Ive been home."
Kendall: Basically, we know were going to be here for two days so we just kind of gotta work it out for two days as hard as we can, and then we go home and we sleep. We think of it more like that than like, Ugh, we have to be up all day. We have to get up at 5 a.m. Were just like, OK, we gotta be up and work it out. Well be home later and we can sleep. Were fine. We know what keeps us going and our manager Liz is incredible. Shes always like, They need food now; theyre gonna die.
Does your mom still manage you as well?
Kendall: Liz is our co-manager and our mom is our momager."
Kylie: Everything goes through my mom, but shes the one who travels with us."
